The Trump Presidency

What an absolute joke of an administration lol

I thought you were a patron of the arts? Is architecture not art? Should we not resist a world full of cold, sanitary, efficient, blocky rectangles? If the government doesn't mandate it who will? This is just another way of fighting pollution, architectural pollution. This was sarcasm, it was a stupid EO. But I do miss good architecture. We need another generations worth of Eames and Eichlers.

A lawsuit has been filed that accuses Trump and the GOP of violating the Ku Klux Klan Act. The complaint was just amended. It's pending before Judge Sullivan. The suit alleges intimidation and coercion of election officials in an effort to target and disenfranchise Black voters.

From what we can tell, and we're not legal scholars, this is exactly the lawsuit that needed to be brought. The essence of the GOP has been to preserve minority rule through voter suppression and worse. It's gotten more out of control, which will happen when a racist is elected.

If it is in fact. However there is no line item veto, only the real thing. Where his lame duck ass he would be defying Majority Leader.
We'll see

In a surprise video address on Tuesday night, President Trump said something House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) could finally get behind: The proposed stimulus checks of $600 in Congress’s coronavirus economic relief bill is “ridiculously low” and should be increased to $2,000.

“Democrats are ready to bring this to the Floor this week by unanimous consent,” Pelosi posted on Twitter. “Let’s do it!”

“I’m in. Whaddya say, Mitch?” tweeted Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.). “Let’s not get bogged down with ideological offsets and unrelated items and just DO THIS! The American people deserve it.”

House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) tweeted Democrats had “fought for months” to provide a package with more money, while Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said he co-sponsored a bill with additional funding seven months ago.

“Now, Mr. President, get Mitch McConnell and your Republican friends to stop opposing it and we can provide working class Americans with $2,000. Let’s do it,” Sanders said.

as an aside, i think these stimulus checks are a very inefficient way to help the economy or the people who need the most help...imo it is a bad idea...but it will be interesting to see if very poorly chosen one wields his veto pen or not

The analogy I keep coming up with is this: Imagine we fight a war but decree only the children of farmers will be sent off to war. Imagine what that would do to social cohesion. So we are fighting this virus, and a fairly narrow segment of society is bearing the brunt of the war. We need to make those people whole.

The argument against more targeted payouts was that the process of identifying those people would still be happening after the crisis was over. For whatever that's worth. I think the first relief package should have been the stimulus, PPP, unemployment benefits, and payouts to state level health departments for disbursement.

I think we all understand that my plan wouldn't have allowed for enough corruption and special interest payouts.
