Trump's very public persona of lacking of empathy and lairdship was also baked into situation at the time of the riots.

gangs all you want, but if there we ever present cellphones

and cameras in 1920’s Germany you can bet the videos would look pretty identical.

grandpa is glossing over the part where insufferable elitists condescended to and hurt the feelings of the proud boys...if there is one thing you don't do to a proud boy it is to point out what an idiot he is

maybe the whole experience was so painful grandpa doesn't want to relive it
 
Comment in response to a column by Nicholas Kristof in the NY Times:

I'm a life-long conservative. I'm also a Ph.D., graduated from Baylor College of Medicine and spent most of my professional life in various biological science roles.

So, despite my conservative political views my scientific knowledge and experience shows that Kristof is right as rain to condemn Trump and his cronies for their deliberate lassitude in fighting this awful plague. I'm grateful to this opinion writer for that.

However, just try, as I have, to visit the comments sections on many of the right-leaning websites I frequent and make the above statements. There ignorance and political loyalty prevails over common sense and science. Trump is directly responsible for that.

At the end of this pandemic, Trump will have easily killed hundreds of thousands of conservatives if not a million or more. He's the worse thing that has happened to conservatism in a half century.

Still, I'm left wondering if even a small percentage of the surviving conservatives will ever come to admit this.

Some people simply cannot see the forest for the trees.
 
George bush was the devil incarnate. Somehow trump was worse than that although bush was one of the most disastrous presidents of our lifetime.
 
Very glad to see this. We can bicker over methodology, but what Assange and Snowden accomplished were for the greater good.
