The Trump Presidency

I'm not going to get on my high horse and suggest Lewis is off limits for criticism, but the specific criticism Trump landed on is laughable and insulting to Lewis' career. Further, for a person trying to convince America he's going to be the President of all Americans and earn the trust of those who think he's a bad choice for minorities, he needs to have better ****ing sense than to attack a civil rights hero during a holiday weekend dedicated to the civil rights movement. I agree that he wasn't actively trying to offend anyone (beyond Lewis) or come across as racially insensitive, but at some level he still should be accountable for the stupid **** he spews out on Twitter.

Lewis attacked Trump. He questioned the legitimacy of the vote. Not only is that tact one of pure and unbridled ignorance, but it's also one that makes him fair game for a critical response.

It's absurd to suggest that Lewis be exempt because he's a 'civil rights icon'. He's a senile old coot and the definition of a shill. See: The Benghazi Hearings

What's the schoolyard adage? Don't dish it if you can't take it.

I'm glad my President defended himself and the vote that put him fairly and freely in office.

I think Trump is certainly entitled to defend himself...particularly as touches the legitimacy of his election.

That he did so in such a boorish and predictable way is what is, to coin a phrase, SAD!

How are those Clinton indictments looking, Hawk? I was too depressed after the election to come up with an avatar for you.

Except that he didn't defend himself so much as make a childish attack that had nothing to do with the initial claim.

"You cheated," said the Congressman
"You're a weak black man," answered the Prez elect.

Soon Trump will be spewing his schoolyard banter around the world and it will have long-lasted consequences.

The fact that this election is tainted is indisputable. Both Russia and a rogue FBI helped sway the vote.

Obama was given **** for 8 years from all manners of the right. And he never stooped in 8 years to the level that Trump has before even taking the oath.

Trump is a sad pathetic man. WHat is he going to do when Kim Jung Un calls him a fatty bum bum? Or whatever childish bully fight those 2 would have with each other.

I'd much rather have a president who leads by example, and Trump's example is to talk **** about people on twitter, which is not something I can get behind.

Incidentally, what did John Lewis have to do with the Benghazi hearings?

Congressman John Lewis should finally focus on the burning and crime infested inner-cities of the U.S. I can use all the help I can get!

Nothing drives home the anachronism of Trump’s critique like his reference to “burning … inner cities.” That may have been a problem in the 1970s, when the Bronx burned, but it’s not today. Since 1981, calls for fires in the United States are down by 50 percent. Big city fire departments today are more likely to worry about a dearth of major fires leaving younger firefighters short on experience than having too many fires to fight. And urban fires aren’t a good measure of social dysfunction, anyway. A recent study found that rates of residential fires in major cities are correlated with the age of the housing stock and its vacancy rate, and not with the socioeconomic status of their residents.

Well, it's Trump. The bar is well-established and I'm not sure why anybody might have expected a magical 'change' in his demeanor after the election. That's not what we paid for.

Boorish is certainly a fair characterization, but sadly enough Trump's statements about Lewis and his 5th Congressional District are far more accurate than Lewis' original comments which stirred the cauldron.

...

As for the Clinton indictments: I'll take my punishment, sir. It's probably exactly what I deserve for placing any semblance of value on what Bret ****ing Baier says.

There is so much exaggeration in this post that Eisenhower is spinning in his grave.
