So why don't the companies just pay the government directly? Why do some people have to pay more taxes than others, at higher rates. Why are there different types of taxes? Why can't I opt out of social security?

No need to answer this question. I may start a new thread on it. But I believe my earnings belong to me. The government is confiscating a large chunk (much more from me than say, Bernie Sanders, for example). I think it's really really really dangerous to proclaim that people's property in some way belongs to the government.
