The Trump Presidency

If they are dead, and history has judged them, then why do you feel as though you'll find vindication by pulling them of the grave and putting them on what is nothing more than a show trial?

Because it's not about the people. It's the fact that others have already done the inverse of that, to damaging effect. If exploding some of those myths is a by-product of changing the paradigm, it's hardly just for show.

Have you stopped to think about why American history treats these figures with a kind of gentle grace? I mean, setting aside for a moment that it's part of our moral tapestry and all that nonsense.

Of course it's about 'the people' - not the bronzified ones, the ones that walked below. This is the piece that you manage to consistently air mail.

Yeah, Lincoln's second inaugural address. In our best light. Then when it got pissed on during the death of reconstruction and the rise of Jim Crow? How shall we deal with that? With honesty, I hope. No?

We're great friends and allies of the Germans and Japanese now. That necessitates a certain amount of mutual forgiveness, but it doesn't mean dishonestly elevating the ideas and people that put us at odds.

So it's wrong to point out that those who walked below were and are serving a toxic and barbarous idea?

So let's have a nationwide moment of truth and reconciliation. But that's going to require some concessions, which are heretofore pretty hard to come by.

Did y'all see that arizona law maker who tweeted "good morning America! What's offending us today?"

And then had to delete and apologize because it offended so many people

A little post-fascist efficacy sounds like the remedy.
