The Trump Presidency

Well ... I guess in order to properly answer this question I need to know exactly what you mean by flag-****ing. Because if you mean jingoistic flag-****ing, then yes, that existed, perhaps dominated the flag-****ing that was going on (but there was also another breed of ****ty Detroit-made car loving, Lee Greenwood crooning, all-American flag-****ing that existed simultaneous to that practiced by the Jingos.)

I understand you want to play cause and effect with the Iraq War and the Bush doctrine and unchained patriotism, and I agree that there's a thoughtful debate to be had in this realm, but how it relates to anything that I've said about the topic at hand is tenuous, at best.

Well, it's a sideline discussion, true, but I have a hard time distinguishing one orchestrated jingoistic display from another. You're conferring positive value upon them, so perhaps you should help me with the task.

I mean, yo, how is it tenuous? You've elevated the patriotic/jingoistic pregame ceremonies to something approaching sacrosanct status, right?

So there wasn't any sort of, I don't know . . . incident in Charlotte that sparked that protesting?

Just spontaneous combustion?

Well, sorry if I don't find the argument that only "spontaneous" protest is appropriate and acceptable to be compelling.

Same issues. Same immediacy, that day and this day and next Sunday. Really weird take, tbh.

I'm just curious - what makes you think I'm talking about timeliness here?

I am excited about the prospects of saving money from no longer watching or supporting the anti-America football league. Already on the hook for Sunday Ticket this season, but this will be it for me. I know people don't care since I am not an oppressed grossly rich member of society. I am just a struggling forgotten American that the left won't let President Trump try and help.

And those New England fans can boo til the cows come home but they stayed and cheered for their team once the game kicked off. And they'll celebrate those same guys if they win another Super Bowl.

Yes, of course. I don't think anybody realistically expects NFL stadiums to go empty (or for fans to reject their teams) because players are kneeling during the national anthem.

Yes, I think the ratings are declining. I think it's partly the brain damage and political thing, but I'm sure it's also the younger generations not having cable, more and more people flocking to soccer, etc.

I'm sure that's part of it, but FWIW, MLB hasn't experienced a ratings decline (the opposite actually).

Yep the same anti-America football league that plays the national anthem before every game and a lot of times has a giant flag the size of a football field.

Same league who wouldn't allow a player to wear commerative cleats honoring those lost during 9/11. Or a tiny symbol on the Cowboys helmets for the slain police officers. Instead they let players wear shirts that have Castro on them and promote players who hate this country.

We haven't really though, or at least not in the same way.

The President might be our leader, our commander-in-chief, but the American flag is our God. It's the fiber of our collective national soul.

That's ridiculous, and if it were true, even more reason to direct dissatisfaction toward it when It lets Its subjects down.

Yeah, this again and again.

If your pov, Hawk, is that Kaepernick should have protested without prickling a revered cultural process, how much success do you think he'd have had? If he had held a press conference and said his bit he'd have gotten pats on the back from some, brickbats from others, and we would collectively forget about it sooner rather than later. This kind of thinking is often the province of liberal elites--that protest has to be the "right" person, at the right time, and in the right venue. Most historically meaningful protests and social movements rarely meet this test, including the ones that are most celebrated ex post facto.

The fact that he has started such a kerfuffle says that he picked a good venue for his protest, however, the conversation is now over flag gazing and not rampant police brutality against people of color.

Well, of course it's ridiculous ... you've taken it completely out of context and bastardized it in this weird, unrelated way.

The comparison was solely intended to differentiate between the way our society glories the flag versus how we glorify the Presidency.

I was not being literal.

And we find out more used private email servers while in the White House under the orange piece of ****

And in no shocking fashion, his supporters are silent or don't think it's an issue

But what's Aleppo. The corrupt pieces of **** got 97% of the vote. So the problem isn't that we aren't getting what we want, it's that we overwhelmingly support criminals being president.

I asked a week or so back and no one responded.

What will war with N Korea look like ?

Experts are putting ground war at 50-50
Nuclear war at 12-15%

Who will fight?
Will there be a draft ?

When some of you voted for Trump -- did you understand this was the path ?

This is the closest we have been since 1962

Dare we click off the names of fellow posters that would be draft eligible ?

Can someone explain to me why kneeling for the flag is disrespectful and the players ought to be required to stand for it or be fired/out of the country (according to Richard Petty)?
Yet, waving a nazi flag, the flag of people who not only murdered a large chunk of a race of people but also killed a lot of people fighting for our flag, is free speech (nothing more, nothing less) and it's someone else's fault when **** goes south?
