It's OVER 5,000!
In the early 70's when I first moved south a former Fla Highway Patrolman I was doing work for drove me around to show me trees where over his career he had cut down lynched "Negroes"
Could never tell whether he was warning me or condemning lynching. It was weird
Yes, a different time would be one way to put it
Erick Erickson used to be a city councilman in Macon and I once heard him talk about the building of I-75 through Macon. The right of way went right through a black neighborhood, and down the middle of several homes. The DOT took only half of those people's lots, bulldozed through the middle of the houses to clear the highway side of the right of way, and left the homeowners the responsibility of cleaning up any debris on their side. And only payed half the value of the homes. It's difficult to imagine humans treating other humans that way.
