The Trump Presidency

Pompeo is a hawk. Trump has wanted him at State since last summer. His appointment pretty clearly foreshadows the tenor of the upcoming negotiations with North Korea and the imminent pullout from the Iranian agreement.

Y'all are gonna get really uppity when he fingers Bolton for NSA.

I like the Haspel pick.

I figured Bolton for NSA when it was reported that he was interviewing. Obviates the need for a rocky Senate confirmation.

Ugh. We're going to be longing for the Tillerson-era inertia soon enough. I don't worry about Pompeo's competence, but I do worry about his ideology. McMaster for Bolton would be a rotten deal. We're setting up the board for a Bush II redux.

yeah, slipped

i watched the video

a 70+ year old woman going down stairs in India slipped, HOLY ****!!!

you're pathetic

Yeah, she could barely take a step without two grown men helping her. And trump was not fit. You sheep are the worst.

Mathis is the only member of the cabinet that I consider a star. He would be a star in any cabinet.

Agreed on Mattis. I've read more than once that Mattis and Tillerson were in lock step with one another and were able to get Trump to buy in and cooperate with their strategies. I think Tillerson is underrated.

trump is scared of stairs man

i said i don't even like that woman and somehow i'm a sheep. lol

Yeah, Bolton and Pompeo are straight-up ideologues. Which isn't necessarily problematic in and of itself, but, as you note, it's a marked departure from the pragmatic mantles that Tillerson and McMaster held. Also toppled is another pillar of 'the counterbalance' in the administration (Cohn was a fundamental piece too).

I believe in the omnipresent tug-of-war the counterbalance necessitates - not the expeditiousness of yes men.

Tillerson's helmsmanship of State was lacking flash, old-fashioned, trickling ... but respectfully subdued and under the radar. He's lined up the dominoes pretty nicely. Now we get to see how quickly they fall.

Pompeo is not a bad choice for state imo. Bolton is a joke.

Bolton is scary, but people tend to say a lot of **** on TV in desperate attempts to stay relevant.

If he's ultimately picked, that's what I'm going to tell myself (at least).

Yeah, I assume...er, hope... that the TV caricature is somewhat moderated by reality.

CNN reporting Homeland Security investigating McEntee for serious financial crimes. Why would Homeland Security be investigating financial crimes? Smuggling? Trading commodity futures with ISIS (they seem to know a thing or two about straddles and strangles)? Seems bizarre.

I think I heard this correctly when I was watching TV but supposedly it was an investigation done by the Secret Service who report to DHS so that's why they're involved. I did not know that.

“President Trump agreed with Prime Minister May that the Government of the Russian Federation must provide unambiguous answers regarding how this chemical weapon, developed in Russia, came to be used in the United Kingdom,” the White House said in a brief statement on the call.“The two leaders agreed on the need for consequences for those who use these heinous weapons in flagrant violation of international norms.”

He was the “Koch Brothers’ Congressman”

and “the congressman from Koch.” Now, he’s Trump’s awful pick for Secretary of State.

Mike Pompeo isn’t a diplomat;

he’s a glorified errand boy for the wealthiest

and most powerful special interests in the world.

I spit coffee all over my monitor

this blow hard hasn't enforced the last round of consequences.
