Let's suss this out a little:

Measure of progress--are you talking about per capita income adjusted for inflation

class--are you talking about decile or quartile groups in the income distribution

last 50 years--is it your contention that government policy has been trickle down in the last 50 years? all of it? just certain periods? does it matter whether policy was trickle down in some of that period and not trickle down in others?

we had an exchange earlier about being willing to look at the data honestly and changing one's views based upon what the data show. is there any pattern in the data that would cause you to revise your view that trickle down works?

I mean, I fully admit that I'm trolling here, but I hope I'm doing it in service of a loftier goal.

So, sturg, if Americans (per you) are universally better off over the last 50 years (per unspecified measures)...why limit it to 50 years? Are we better off than we were 100 years ago? 150? 200? Surely the answer is yes, right? So is that an argument in favor of big government, the income tax, the military-industrial complex, the welfare state, and all of the socio-economic developments over that time period?

50 years ago is 1967...not long after that the rapid productivity growth of the post-war period stopped...leading to much slower income growth...if we wanted to have a serious discussion we could talk about why productivity growth slowed starting in 1970s...it is probably the case that the exceptional growth of the 1950s and 1960s was the anomaly...still leaves open all sorts of constructive discussion about what policy can and can't contribute to faster growth

or we could do this...mumble mumble trickle down...voila
 
Yeah. This is potentially a big, expansive conversation that we're going to boil down to some small and out-of-context data point then call it a day.
 
I used the 50 year mark bc most people attribute the trickle down effect starting under Regan

I believe 57 posted a meme once saying how the middle class had been wiped out since then.

Tell that to the blacks about Democrats who steal their votes. Our lives haven't got any better and you have 50 years of correcting the situation but you don't want to because you think we might leave the party.

Talking about being civil, we are still slaves but under different circumstances. I hate that party. At least the Republicans will kiss you before they f*ck you.
