The Trump Presidency

In the Republican controlled Senate, the Dem's proposal gets more votes than the Trump/GOP proposal.

That is just mind-blowing. Why in any version of reality would McConnell and Trump agree to such a humiliating vote with these outcomes???

Even the most brainwashed Trumpster has to admit that this guy is terrible at government.

who knew ?

Oh, that makes it ok?

It’s a felony that is punished with jail time, so, no, it’s not “ok.” It’s also not what you’re insinuating it is.

If you’ve got 58K instances of non-citizens voting over 22 years in one of the most populous states, with one of the largest immigrant populations, you’re a long way from making a convincing case that it’s an issue of the magnitude that you’ve suggested.

McConnell has been strongly opposed to the shutdown. He used the Senate votes on Thursday to try to beat some sense into Trump and the Republican crazies. McConnell is a pro, and a skillful one at that.

Kudos to the Dems for not holding a ridiculous victory party moment like the Reps always do when they get a win.

Nancy Pelsoi threw out the "Let them eat cake" quote and Trump folded less than 24 hrs later. She clearly won this round rather convincingly.

No one won. There's no one in government that looks good after this. No one in the country is better off. There's only people who lost more and those who lost less.

I guess we will have to wait for even more indtances of verifued voter fraud for you to feel comfortable with extrapolation.

No matter how you spin it, there's no denying that Nancy Pelosi is the big winner here. A lot of people said she wasn't up to the task of taking on Trump. She has proven that she is, and then some. Let's see if her approval rating goes up or down.

Trump made a mistake in selfishly shutting down the govt and hurt a lot of people, including himself. His poll numbers were falling and he was losing Rep senators too. It was an unforced error by Trump. He tried to bluff his way into getting his wall that not enough people on his side even want. It didn't work. He looks weaker and more lost today than at any point so far. His inner circle is so small it doesn't even make a whole circle.

If you believe in a magic man in the sky then its really not hard to believe anything. Never forget it was the Christian Right that championed this guy. Also important not to forget he is/was supported by 84% of law enforcement on the streets. Because he is the law and order candidate who supports law enforcement.

he honestly isn't good at anything though

like, seriously

he was born on 3rd base and did nothing good and lied and conned his way to president of the usa by making fools believe lies that could easily be debunked and they just overlooked that

No, Pelosi is not the big winner here. All of our leaders in Washington spent about 34 days acting petulant and childish.

Ultimately, the shutdown wasn't even over a major issue. It was about a relatively inconsequential amount of money going to a wall that probably won't do much.

The only reason Trump dug in on this was that it was something he ran on saying he'd do. The only reason the Dems opposed it so hard was because it was something Trump ran on saying he'd do.

We had a record shutdown because the leaders of the two parties were fighting over political face.

You should be disgusted with Pelosi and Schumer and Republicans should be disgusted with McConnell and Trump. Millions of Americans were hurt and countless billions list because our leadership refused to put the needs of the country ahead of their political games.

And if you're cheering anyone in this as doing the right thing, I'm honestly disgusted with you.

Let's math it out as well. 2,636 per election in a state. The population in Texas in 1990 was 16.9M and in 2000 it was 20.8. So using some pretty safe numbers in projection we can start the population count at around 19M for 1996. And to make this look even worse I won't even calculate in the average increase in population. Just use the first part of the decade numbers for the 2000s and the 2010s. So in the 90s, 2636 would be the equivalent of .01% of the population, or basically a 1 in 10,000 chance. Which is basically the odds of being injured on the toilet. You're as likely to get hurt on the toilet as to find instances of voter fraud in texas.

The part that annoys me about thethe is he's a math guy. You'd think he'd do his number crunching before getting pissed off. ANd this is me being lazy figuring that out.

Or here's another thing. Even if all 58,000 voted in the last Texas election (which the tweet implies but seemingly doesn't source things correctly) that number is less than the people who didn't vote for Ted Cruz or Beto O'Rourke.

It's also worth noting that these people since 1996 were identified as non-citizens, and voted at some point, but that doesn't mean their status didn't change. For example, someone was in the US on a green card and became a citizen and then later registered to vote. One of the methods utilized was cross referencing with the DMV. Aka a place you can get a voter ID. And froma statistical standpoint if that happened only once that's almost as statistically significant as the total number that was provided by Texas officials.

Accept that current polls indicate that the majority of voters blame Trump and the Republicans over the Democrats. I thinkit's clear that someone is winning this. Using RCP going into the shutdown Trump's average disapproval rating was around +9. Coming out the other side it's +14. Only one poll has his disapproval within 10 points of his approval, that's Rasmussen.

Be as disgusted as you want. Power politics is a game, like it or not. When McConnell denied Obama his Supreme Court Justice I didn't like it but knew that McConnell won the battle. Pelosi called Donnie's bluff and won. First, she and Chuck Schumer got Donnie to admit on camera that the shutdown was his, letting him make his won bed. Then they sat back and watched him try and lie in it. Then she cancelled the SOTU , flexing her power. It's been a great week for her. Pelosi's numbers have been going up as Donnie's are dropping. He blundered and she outplayed him. She won.

He owns the shutdown and it was a stupid idea from the start. Only he did it. You can't blame the Dems or Nancy Pelosi for not going along with his dumb idea that nobody wanted but him and his ignorant followers.

But that doesn't mean that I'm happy govt workers missed out on a month of pay. Polls show that they are rightly blaming the Orange One for it.

This is what's wrong with American politics. It's treated as a game. Politicians care more about scoring points than they do about taking care of the country. The press is horribly complicit in this. CNN covers politics like ESPN does sports.

We have people standing at the end of this shutdown looking at billions of dollars lost, public employees who haven't been paid in over a month, leaders who have thrown childish tantrums like children, and disfunction in Washington at an all-time high declaring winners and losers

If this is your definition of a win, maybe you should want to win less often.

Did we miss the celebratory beer party yesterday?
You are right. No one won.
The Speaker has not used those words.

Who lost billions of dollars? The economy? If so, that was really dumb.

You are talking about Trump's crazy gambit to force a very small minority idea on the majority. Tell me who looks childish.

If this is your definition of a win, maybe you should want to win less often.
It's not my definition of a win, but just a political win for Pelosi.

Trump got his wall. Her name is Nancy. Even former RNC chair Steele who created this false smear against her says he respects her and she is a very competent legislator. Trump is not even in her league.

All she did was refuse to do anything.

That's not particularly hard.

Sounds like a do nothing Congress. I remember when everyone hated the repubs who did that under Obama
