The Trump Presidency

I'll take my chances on the ravages of socialism over another four years of a president who thinks its ok to denigrate and vilify people based on ancestry. My priority is to remove the xenophobe-in-chief from office. And there are other not so small considerations. Criminality. Corruption. Misogyny. To name just a few.

There are a couple of Dems I could see myself voting for, but unfortunately I don’t see them having a real shot. There’s another larger group where I’ll ether vote 3rd party or stay home. I couldn’t vote for Trump in 16 and still can’t in 20.

That's where I'm at.

The only way I'd vote for Trump is if Sanders or Warren are the nominee

I don't know how old you are (and don't really care). All I can say is I have been involved in politics (Democratic) for over 40 years and was an avid follower of politics as a grade school and high school student prior to that and what is happening with Trump is really unprecedented in my experience. You're correct that the knuckle-dragging white supremicists have always been around (the same crazy ideas were kicked around throughout my career) and they have had out-sized influence in the political sphere at several junctures in American history. What they have never had is a President as blatant and careless whose rhetoric so closely tunes to their beliefs. Having lived through the Civil Rights movement and Vietnam era, as loudly as some elected officials outlined their objections to those demonstrations language from national officials expressing those complaints was much more measured even from the most vocal opponents (I realize that rhetoric by elected officials closer to the events was often more vituperative). To somehow assert that what we are going through now somehow follows into the normal pattern of American political discourse is off the mark. I'm not saying you are doing that and I believe both sides seem to prefer to drive in the ditch as opposed to staying on the road, but what is coming out of the Presidency is markedly outside our tradition.

We've never had the mainstream media throw out such blatant propaganda as we've had during Trump's term. The simple use of the term "rhetoric" is a massive tool in their propaganda conspiracy. Just now you'll see the media littered with headlines such as "The El Paso shooter's manifesto is closely aligned with Trump's rhetoric". This makes the average person think that the El Paso shooter was just carrying out what Trump ultimately wants. The reality is the articles mean absolutely nothing. His manifesto being closely aligned with Trump's rhetoric carries as much weight as the manifesto being written in English, Trump using English, therefore the manifesto is closely aligned with Trump. It's blatant propaganda using word play. They media is using any and every excuse they can to align Trump with racism, hatred and death.

You've been around long enough, where was the outcry when Bill Clinton told the nation he was cracking down on illegal immigrants because they were crossing our borders and taking away American jobs? He said they were going to start beefing up border security and deporting many more illegal immigrants than they were in the past. Is this really that much different than Trump? Why was Clinton cheered for upholding the LAW while Trump is called a racist for it? Propaganda.

Trump singles out individuals and makes some immature tweets that I don't agree with but he does not condemn entire races of people and he does not favor white supremacy. This is all conjured up by the mainstream media. What he does do is hold meetings with inner city pastors to try and help the inner city kids in dangerous cities such as Baltimore but this doesn't get reported by the media. What the media will do is hold an interview with one of the pastors and then attack the pastor when the pastor does not go with their own "rhetoric" involving Trump being a racist. When the pastor wants to talk about helping inner city kids, he gets cut off and cast as a "controversial pastor who compares gay marriage to pedophilia". Again, propaganda.

The left is reaching for an Orwellian type society. The New York Times was forced to change a pro Trump headline to a negative headline because they threatened to cancel their subscriptions. Truths and facts do not matter to them. Gaining power is all they want and they're brainwashing the masses through propaganda. You aren't allowed to know anything about Trump other than he's a bad orange man who is a racist and a fascist. Anything else about the man shall be deleted from the records is never to be spoken about.

I don't even like Trump but I'm forced to defend him because I'd rather have an A hole running this country than the brainwashed crazy people the left are touting.

Which individuals was he singling out in expressing a preference for immigrants from Norway over those from ****hole countries.

Which individuals was he singling out when he talked about rapists from Mexico and invading caravans.

Did Bill Clinton talk about entire groups like this?

I don't think your excuse-making holds up.

I'm talking about his tweets singling out congressmen like Elijah Cummings and people turning it into a racist act just because he's black. The left is essentially saying you're racist if you criticize a black person for doing a poor job.

Lets get real here, who do you think Clinton was targeting when he talked about illegal immigrants taking our jobs and needing deportation? The Italians? The Greeks? It couldn't have been, the Mexicans, could it? Because that would be racist.

Do we have a tweet or an audio clip from the president talking about immigrants from Norway? I haven't seen one but lets just use that as an example. Pick your favorite Democrat. Lets say Joe Biden is your man. Now lets say they've built a development around Joe's house and they're going to move a bunch of people into it from a certain area. Joe gets to pick his new neighbors and he has two choices. They can either be from the ghettos of West Baltimore or the beautiful beaches of Malibu California. Now who is Joe going to surround himself with? Remember, there's not a racist bone in this man's body so surely he would rather help out and surround himself with the folks from the West Baltimore ghettos, right?

That's one thing lefties pride themselves on is how non-racist they are but you put their feet to the fire and they're just as "racist" as many of the people they condemn. They get by through vagueness and hypocrisy.

Somehow he managed to do it without recourse to xenophobic and racist language. It's actually not difficult at all. Unless you are the kind of person who pushes a racist lie like birtherism. Then I suppose it is a challenge. Yes, Trump seems challenged in this regard.

So racism is ok as long as its not said explicitly in public?

To risk having one of these leftist clowns getting the presidency by not voting for trump is insane to me.

This whole post is filled with silly fail.

Anyway, I fully expect a right wing extremist to assassinate a Dem Candidate, I expect a left wing radical to assassinate Mitch McConnell. That's the way discord is going in this country, we're heading for some violent wild west type of ****, it won't go away until the racists are drug for what they are. Trump's GOP doesn't want to do that.

So racism is ok as long as its not said explicitly in public?

Of course not. Racist actions and speech can take place in a furtive or covert manner.

And it can take place in a highly public way. Birtherism was a racist lie. Asking people to go back where they came from is racist and xenophobic. Expressing a preference for immigrants from Norway over those from ****hole countries is racist. Saying a judge can't do his job because of his ancestry is racist.

ymmv

Apparently people will die if Trump isn't re-elected. Now that it has been put that way, I'll have to reconsider.

Something something arguing in good faith.

The new economic policies of the left will do so much more lasting damage than anything Trump has done.

We dont have to go into the horrors of socialism's history, and the death count in the millions, to acknowledge this fact.

But by all means, embrace the people who want to limit what you can say, limit your ability to protect yourself, and completely run 70% of your life all bc you get mad at a twitter account from a dude who will be dead in 5 years

But one is worse?

Yes and if aces is in ny then i recant my statement.

So voting in the election doesn't matter if you live in a state that is solid blue or red? Interesting thought process.

Personally I think it's an easy chicken **** way of getting out of your civic duty. I say this as someone who's voted in every election since I moved into a house, because I care about where I live and yeah my vote didn't effect the 2016 election, I fully intend to push the 2020 primary if I can but I will vote for someone who may not win.

I quickly read your post. I did vote for trump and im sure there is history on this site that shows as much. However, in NY it is pointless.
