The Trump Presidency

The argument against more targeted payouts was that the process of identifying those people would still be happening after the crisis was over. For whatever that's worth. I think the first relief package should have been the stimulus, PPP, unemployment benefits, and payouts to state level health departments for disbursement.

I think we all understand that my plan wouldn't have allowed for enough corruption and special interest payouts.

I agree that targeting does have the drawback of being complicated and bureaucratic. But there is a tradeoff. If we channel aid broadly it becomes very expensive very fast. I do think part of the reason we have become so divided is that a whole segment of the population has just been destroyed financially. Surely there are ways of figuring out who they are and how to channel aid to them.

Tax returns. But that doesn't help them today. In reality we just need to stop giving aid to other countries and giving so much to the military until we can fix our own problems. But that's never going to happen.

Yeah it's sticky. Ideally this would go to businesses that are suffering enough to lay off staff or close down, so they could continue making payroll. I guess the bright side is that we don't have to worry about deserving recipients being screwed over the way a lot of small businesses were by PPP.

The analogy I keep coming up with is this: Imagine we fight a war but decree only the children of farmers will be sent off to war. Imagine what that would do to social cohesion. So we are fighting this virus, and a fairly narrow segment of society is bearing the brunt of the war. We need to make those people whole.

I pledged a few months worth until maybe there is REAL relief from their govs. I have another personal interest to prioritize right now but I’m definitely funding it while they operate

Who he has pardoned says a lot about where his priorities are. He's a criminal who cares about criminals.

It’s absurd to me that everyone is more concerned with the Manafort and Kushner pardons than the Blackwater pardons. Those murderous ****s deserved to rot.

He’d get elected in a landslide right now. Every single one to shame...

And I’m 100% serious

Amazing how much more effective private charity is than government force.

People voluntarily donating to causes they support. And the funds going directly to them rather than a BLOATED bureaucracy

Thanks for the link @tapate50. I just donated.

The only thing that gave me reservation about it is that I presume it helps NYC citizens... but this is the government they voted for so in a way it was predictable. I hope they wake up

By "waking up" I mean 2 things

1. change their voting habits, of course. Insist the government has less power so they can't do this ****

2. give the government the middle finger and just open up their business. If they all did this, the lockdowns wouldn't last

Hello of a compliment from this monster

Very few will. It requires admitting they were part of the problem. Most of them have been taught that all that matters is what makes them feel good, so humility doesn't come easy.

So your saying they feel like they are trying to teach the chuckleheads or rednecks? Cannot admit wrong theory or applications though? Hmmmm

Interesting concept. I’ll have to do some behavioral research.
