The worst 10 states for quality of life in the USA...

Being a westerner most of my life, this list makes me smile. I'm not sure on the criteria, but if you've never been thru Norcal, Oregon, or Washington, you have no idea what you are missing.

I have rather fond memories of my time in Georgia, but they are also rose colored with memories of my late grandfather. But I have seen some states in that region I couldn't imagine living in. The humidity is unbearable at times in the south...perhaps you just get used to it? Louisiana? You'd have to pay me billions to live there.

Montana had a lot of appeal to me. I could have just stayed when we went skiing.

I'm driving across North Dakota tomorrow, prior to a sure-to-be-brilliant lateral crossing of Montana (and then Idaho). Should be a scenic few days.

10. Georgia

9. New Mexico

8. Louisiana

7. South Carolina

6. Oklahoma

5. Tennessee

4. West Virginia

3. Arkansas

2. Alabama

1. Mississippi

This is a meaningless list. Any gainfully employed white person in the South is right where they want to be.

Coworker took a camping trip floating down the Snake and told me it was the prettiest terrain he had ever seen. Apparently they only allow a certain number of permits to float it and only a few months of the year. It's on the list.

Scenic, whiteperson codeword for boring as hell.

Maybe to most, but I'm legitimately excited. North Dakota and Idaho are two of the corners of the US standing twixt me and having visited all Fifty; and there's a ****-load of small breweries and good prairie and high-plains food along the way.

Yeah, quality of life in the South is high for whites and low for blacks, but is low overall since blacks make up a large percent of our population.

The implication that California is a horrible place to live is certainly novel.

Calling California a terrible place to live is like calling Texas a terrible place to live. Some ****ty parts, but lots of good ones. No offense to my friends on here from Tennesse, Alabama and Mississippi, but driving through those states really sucked. And wherever we stopped in Bama/Louisiana was sketchier than most slums I've been through.

What made them sketchy? The abundance of Black people? You finally admitting some stereotypes? The South has just as many positives as the north and the same in regards to the equality of the negatives. It's all your prerogative.

No, it was really run down and poor. And a big trucker area as well. There were some black folks there (tis the south afterall) but it was more the truckers in abandon parking lots that sketched me out.
