THURSDAY MINORS FINAL 6/29: Muller Coming, Fried Goinjg

He's proof that looking at fastball velocity isn't always the best way to determine stuff. Even when he was effective throwing 100 last year, he didn't k many at all

Nah, he's clearly about to become the next Chapman, just a matter of time.

And yep, movement is what's important, not speed. At least as long as you are 92ish or better.

It is good. This way, we don't hang our hats on Fried and have plenty still if he busts.

Wondering if he has some inflammation or a shoulder strain over another tear. He seem to have been pitching poorly since spring and if he tried to compensate for some discomfort, he might have tweaked his mechanic and caused this new issue. Usually a tear is like Weigel.. going fine then it goes to crap fast. Half a season with a tear is not common.

Low A to AA is a big jump. Fried's performance in AA is fairly typical for players attempting such a jump. Soroka's performance (and to a lesser extent Allard's) is remarkable in the context.

There has been a lot of justification for Fried's mediocre (that's putting it nicely) performance.

I'll say he has been bad and don't know how you will be able to prove otherwise

Thinking he's trash...never had a ERA below 3.5 at all on the minors...look at Soroka and Allards's #s in their young minor league career compared to him.

This. Never understand the hype for him. #'s have never been great even before the injury. Remember some saying he was our best pitching prospect last year....probably would put him in the 20-30 range.

Fried was riding a wave of helium to go with his good scouting reports. Down the stretch and in play offs last year, Fried was very good. Then came into spring and was probably one of the best guys throwing.. Just never got his season going after that..

And that was accompanied by decreased velocity and movement, per some, and now he has left a game with apparent arm trouble. There seems to be a possible explanation for his change in effectiveness beyond his being "bad."

Albies up to .277/.325/.436 (.761 OPS) as a 20 year old in AAA that was coming off a broken elbow to start the season.

Kid will be just fine, no matter how much prospect fatigue may be setting in.
