Tim Hudson signs with Giants

All the best to Tim Hudson in San Francisco. True class act and he will be missed by the Braves.

From the Braves perspective, does the rotation get another arm? At this point, this is the possible/probable rotation (no particular order):

Kris Medlen
Mike Minor
Julio Teheran
Brandon Beachy
Alex Wood

Now, this is a talented rotation of pitchers. But, this is a very young rotation. It will be one of the youngest in all of MLB. Is that too young and is it good enough to win a championship? I still think Wren needs to at least talk to the Rays about David Price. The pitchers listed above have great potential. Not sure if it is championship caliber yet.

And no, I didn't forget Paul Maholm. I see no reason to bring him back.

Nobody thinks we're bringing Maholm back. I don't think we've even contacted his agent. But we do need to bring in some rotation possibilities at a lower cost than what Hudson got.
There's plenty of guys out there who you can get for way less than 11.5 million who might be able to do a decent job for a month or two. We have five starters but really need some insurance.

I am not all that unhappy that Hudson is going elsewhere, coming off a major injury without even knowing yet how he will respond, paying him 11.5M a year at his age is just not a good idea with the situation as it is. Sure he was a great clubhouse guy and terrific supporter of the area, but as a pitcher his best days are long behind him. I would rather take that money and add some for a much better pitcher. Especially given the pitching we already have, Minor, Medlen, Beachy, Teheran, Wood, Graham, etc etc. 11.5M is not cheap, not for a guy that is at the end of his 30s coming off a ankle injury of his magnitude.. Good luck Tim, you will miss being in Georgia.

Don't worry. He'll have Benjamin and all his twin brothers to keep him company!

Im finding it hard to figure what we will spend money since Heap is probably gone too. Arbitration raises alone wont spend that amount

My guess its same old same old Payroll is totally gonna go up guys! and it stays the same or goes down.

Get use to it, it has always been their way.

I'm not going to say that I'm not concerned about Liberty being cheap like they always are. I just don't think thats a good contract to give out.

We do have some money to spend. I think there are three possible places it could happen:

1. Catcher--bring back McCann

2. Second base--presumably we move Uggla and part of his salary, but take on salary net. Howie Kendrick is one second baseman that makes some sense to me.

3. Starting pitching

We'll definitely have some money to spend after all our raises. I don't see the issue being money this offseason I think the issue is where do we upgrade? 2B is the only position that we could add an impact player but I think it's doubtful because of La Stella long term. Catcher we're set now and long term with Gattis, CB, Laird. Only place to really spend money is the bench, bullpen, veteran SP, and locking up our young guys.

Besides Josh Johnson, Chris Capuano is a veteran free agent pitcher who I think would fit in well with this team.

I would also go after another lefty reliever, either EOF or Oliver Perez.

Humbled by the kind words from amazing @Braves fans. We are grateful for every game Tim played, every teammate and coach, and our memories.

Don't discount Roy Halladay as a free agent, or possibly a trade for Kyle Lohse. I think David Price will be too expensive in prospects.
