TLHLIM

You are beyond a strange person

You didn’t ask that
You said this
What can we as a society do to break down the structural barriers to POC to hiking?

Reading that article is a good starter for you.

What stupid point do you think you’re making?

I literally don’t have any feelings on the matter other than you're stupid to think that article says hiking is racist

Yeah, encourage everyone to hike. Which is what the article you came in here in an outrage about says if you had read the damn thing

Tell me what we should do to make POC more comfortable hiking?

The first thing would be to cut down most of the white oak and yellow pine that we see so much of on hiking trails, and plant some black walnut in their place.

I'll just share an anecdote about this. Back when I was in California (the good old days) one son spent a week camping in Yosemite with his classmates and another spent a week panning for gold in the Sierra Nevada. Those were fabulous experiences for them. They went to public schools, but I'm pretty sure not all schools in California provide similar opportunities. You have to game the system a little to get assigned a good spot to camp. There is a portal for filing applications. And because the best slots go fast schools that are serious about this have someone refreshing the portal at midnight on the day it opens up. It is like getting tickets to a rock concert. A little outreach to schools (who might be heavily minority) who get locked out of these opportunities because of simple lack of knowledge or interest or exposure to camping culture can open up these opportunities to a whole group of kids.

So as usual it has nothing to do with race and everything to do with economics and schooling.

Nothing is simple about race. It is tangled up with a bunch of things like housing, schooling, etc etc. The legacy of racism is pervasive in our society. Pervasive. Doesn't mean we haven't made progress. Doesn't mean we haven't slid backwards in some ways (de facto segregation of schools). So I'm happy to cast my lot with the woke folk, as easy as they are to caricature sometimes.

Finally a real solution!

We should also make sure to have segregated hiking groups to be inclusive

If only there was a way to reduce the supply of low skilled labor so more jobs were available at higher wages to minority Americans that could help them break the cycle of poverty. Also, it would be amazing if we could reject the teachers unions and ensure that minorities can go to the school of their choosing.

There was once a politician who espoused these things. What happened to him?

Your boy campaigned on saving suburban moms from the boogie man. He has done a tremendous amount of harm to this country by making some of its worst racists feel it is now ok to express their racism publicly.

Hey when you want to see racism you see it.

Minority voters disagreed or didn’t think it was as important as you.

But hey, words matter more than jobs and school choice. We know how serious you are in solving issues.

Your problem is you always cared about mean words than actual policies.

Now your new savior is backing down to teachers unions which will further leave blacks behind. And opposing reopening which crush lower income workers via lost wages and inflation.

Tragic. But you have made your bed

And the endless flow of illegals will ensure that American minorities have more competition for lower paying jobs.

But seriously guys, nsacpi wants to solve the big issues.

Refreshing the page when scarce resources are made available on the internet? Who is the bigot that told the white schools about this sorcery but didn't tell the black schools? Imagine if others knew about this trick and used it for things like concert tickets or game consoles!

I laughed. Hard
