1923: In a 22-8 win over the Phillies, the Giants become the first team in M.L. history to score in every inning.

1937: The White Sox Bill Dietrich pitches a no-hitter in an 8-0 win over the Browns.

1941: In a 3-2 Giants win over the Reds, Mel Ott hits his 400th homer and scores his 1,500th run.

1961: The Braves trade Billy Martin to the Twins for Billy Consolo.

1975: The Angels Nolan Ryan pitches his fourth no-hitter in an 1-0 win over the Orioles. It was also his 100th career win.

1987: With Joe leading the Indians to a 9-6 win over the Tigers, he and Phil now have a combined 530 wins. This passes Gaylord and Jim Perry for the most among brothers in M.L. history.

1992: With the first pick in the draft, the Astros select Cal State-Fullerton infielder Phil Nevin. The Yankees select Derek Jeter with the sixth pick.

1995: The Diamondbacks name Joe Garagiola, Jr. as their first GM.

2007: After being ejected in a game against the Chattanooga Lookouts, Mississippi Braves manager Phillip Wellman goes on an epic tirade. He kicks dirt over home plate, draws the umpires strike zone in the dirt, tosses third base into the outfield, then crawls on the pitchers mound before tossing the rosin bag like a grenade at the ump. Before leaving the field, he picks up second base and takes it away with him.

2009: In a 5-2 win over the Indians, the Yankees set a M.L. record with their 18th straight game without committing an error.

2012: In an 8-0 win over the Cardinals, Johan Santana pitches the first no-hitter in Mets history.
 
June 2nd:

1891: The Reds Charley Radborn wins his 300th game.

1918: The Red Sox Dutch Leonard pitches a no-hitter in a 5-0 win over the Tigers.

1935: At age 40, Babe Ruth announces his retirement.

1941: Lou Gehrig dies of ALS at 37 years old.

1987: With the first pick in the draft, the Mariners select Ken Griffey, Jr.

1990: The Mariners Randy Johnson pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Tigers.

1996: The Astros Daryl Kile ties a M.L. record when he hits four batters against the Cardinals.

1999: With the first pick in the draft, the Devil Rays North Carolina high school star Josh Hamilton.

2010: Ken Griffey Jr. announces his retirement.

2010: After retiring the first 26 Indians, Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga appears to have thrown a perfect game. However, first base umpire Jim Joyce incorrectly calls Jason Donald safe. After seeing replays, Joyce tearfully admitted his mistake and apologized to Galarraga.
 
June 3rd:

1888: The first publication of "Casey at the Bat" by Ernest L. Thayer appears in the San Francisco Examiner.

1902: In the Cardinals 11-9 win over the Beaneaters, Mike O'Neil hits the first pinch-hit grand slam in M.L. history.

1932: In a 20-13 Yankees win over the A's, Lou Gehrig becomes the first player in the century to hit four home runs in one game.

1932: Due to poor health, John McGraw resigns as Giants manager. In his 32 years as the Giants manager, the team won nine pennants, including four in a row, and won three World Series titles.

1952: The Red Sox trade Johnny Pesky, Walt Dropo, Fred Hatfield, Don Lenhardt, and Bill Wright to the Tigers for Hoot Evers, George Kell, Johnny Lipon, and Dizzy Trout.

1978: The Phillies Davey Johnson becomes the first player in M.L. history to hit two pinch-hit grand slams in one season.

1989: The Astros defeat the Dodgers 5-4 in 22 innings, with the game ending at 2:50 AM. The longest game in N.L. history took seven hours and 14 minutes to play.

1993: The Mariners select Alex Rodriguez with the first overall pick in the draft.

2002: The Blue Jays fire manager Buck Martinez and replace him with Carlos Tosca.

2003: The Cubs Sammy Sosa is ejected from a game against the Devil Rays after the bat he uses shatters, revealing cork inside it.

2010: A day after Jim Joyce's bad call at first base cost him a perfect game, Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga takes the team's lineup card to home plate before the game and shakes his hand. The gesture gains nationwide praise.
 
June 4th:

1911: In a 26-3 win over the Braves, the Reds set a M.L. record with 13 different players scoring at least one run.

1940: The Braves sign Warren Spahn, a standout pitcher from South Park High School in Buffalo, NY.

1964: Sandy Koufax pitches his third no-hitter in the Dodgers 3-0 win over the Phillies, He joins Bob Feller as the only modern-era pitchers to throw three no-hitters.

1968: In a 5-0 win over the Pirates, the Dodgers Don Drysdale pitches his sixth consecutive shutout.

1974: The Indians hold a ten-cent beer night promotion for their game against the Rangers. Unruly behavior from the crowd of 25,134 fans forces the Indians to forfeit the game, which was stopped in the ninth inning with the score tied.

1986: In a 12-3 Pirates win over the Braves, Barry Bonds hits his first M.L. home run.

1998: The Dodgers trade pitchers Hideo Nomo and Brad Clontz to the Mets for pitchers Dave Mlicki and Greg McMichael.

2004: In the Braves 8-4 win over the Phillies, 45-year old Julio Franco becomes the oldest player in M.L. history to hit a grand slam.

2009: The Giants Randy Johnson record his 300th win in a 5-1 victory over the Nationals.

2010: The Orioles fire manager Dave Trembly. Third base coach Juan Samuel takes over on an interim basis.
 
June 5th:

1961: In what turns out to be his final win with the team, Robin Roberts leads the Phillies to a 3-2 win over the Giants.

1974: A's teammates Reggie Jackson and Billy North engage in a fight that results in injuries. Jackson injured his shoulder while catcher Ray Fosse, trying to break it up, has a disc in his neck crushed, which basically ends his season.

1981: In a 3-0 Astros win over the Mets, Nolan Ryan issues two walks, making his career total 1,777, a new M.L. record.

1992: The Mets Eddie Murray drives in two runs against the Pirates, giving him 1,509 for his career. He passes Mickey Mantle for the most among switch-hitters.

2000: The Marlins select Adrian Gonzalez with the first overall pick in the draft.

2001: With the first pick in the draft, the Mets select David Wright from Hickory High School in Cheasapeake, VA.

2002: Barry Bonds hits his 587th career home run, passing Frank Robinson for fourth on the all-time list.

2006: By homering twice in the new Busch Stadium, Ken Griffey Jr. hits a home run in his 43rd different ballpark, tying Fred McGriff's record.

2008: In a 7-5 Braves win over the Marlins, Chipper Jones joins Mickey Mantle and Eddie Murray as the only switch hitters to hit 400 career home runs.
 
June 6th:

1892: Benjamin Harrison becomes the first U.S. President to attend a M.L. game. He watches Cincinnati defeat the Senators in Washington 7-4 in 11 innings.

1925: The White Sox Eddie Collins record his 3,000th hit against another future Hall of Famer, the Senators Walter Johnson.

1939: In the fourth inning of a 17-3 win over the Giants, the Reds become the first team in M.L. history to hit five home runs in one inning.

1941: The Giants become the first team to wear protective head gear during a doubleheader against the Pirates.

1944: After Allied forces invade Normandy in what would become D-Day, Baseball cancels all eight scheduled games.

1948: The Red Sox become the first team in M.L. history to hit three consecutive home runs twice in a season.

1957: The Dodgers/Cubs game becomes the first in M.L. history to be called off due to fog.

1978: With the first pick in the draft, the Braves select Bob Horner from Arizona State. Horner had become the first winner of the Golden Spikes Award, given by USA Baseball to the best amateur player.

1990: The Yankees replace Bucky Dent as manager with Stump Merrill.

1993: Cal Ripken Jr's consecutive games played streak almost ends when he sprains his knee in a game against the Mariners. His spikes got caught in the infield grass and his knee was swollen the next day. His streak at this point was a 1,790 games.

2003: Sammy Sosa is suspended eight games for using a corked bat in the Cubs game against the Devil Rays.

2007: In the Padres 5-3 win over the Dodgers, Trevor Hoffman becomes the first in M.L. history to record 500 saves.
 
June 7th:

1966: With the first pick in the draft, the Mets select high school catcher Steve Chilcott, who never plays a game in the majors. With the second pick, the A's select future Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson.

1982: The Dodgers Steve Garvey becomes the fifth player in M.L. history to play in 1,000 straight games.

1989: The Brewers/Blue Jays game in Toronto becomes the first in M.L. history to be played part outdoors and part indoors. The roof of the new SkyDome was open to start the game, but in the fifth inning, it was close due to coming weather.

2006: In a 16-9 win over the Pirates, the Rockies tie a M.L. record with five sacrifice flies.

2007: With a 10-3 victory over the White Sox, the Yankees Joe Torre wins his 2,000th game as a manager. He's the first to have that milestone as well as 2,000 hits as a player.
 
June 8th:

1934: The Reds become the first team to travel by airplane.

1950: A day after defeating the Browns 20-4, the Red Sox beat them again 29-4, setting a M.L. record for runs scored in consecutive games.

1955: The Dodgers option rookie pitcher Tommy Lasorda to make room on the roster for Sandy Koufax, who is coming off the 30-day disabled list.

1961: In the seventh inning against the Reds, the Braves become the first team in M.L. history to hit four straight home runs as Eddie Mathews, Hank Aaron, Joe Adcock, and Frank Thomas all went deep. Despite that, the Braves still lose 10-8.

1964: The A's sign Jim "Catfish" Hunter to a deal worth $75,000.

1965: Arizona State's Rick Monday becomes the first player ever selected in the MLB Draft, picked by the A's.

1968: A sacrifice fly by the Phillies Howie Bedell ends Don Drysdale's scoreless innings streak at 58 2/3. It was Bedell's only RBI of the season.

1982: Hall of Famer Satchel Paige dies at age 75.

1986: In the longest nine-inning game in A.L. history, the Orioles defeat the Yankees 18-9. The game takes four hours and 16 minutes to play.

1996: In the championship game of the College World Series, LSU's Warren Morris hits the first walk-off home run in the event's history, helping the Tigers defeat the Miami Hurricanes 9-8. For Morris, who missed 39 games that season due to a broken wrist, it was his only home run of the season.

2005: The Phillies trade infielder Placido Polanco to the Tigers for reliever Ugueth Urbina and infielder Ramon Martinez.

2010: Former #1 draft pick Stephen Strasburg makes his M.L. debut, striking out 14 Pirates in seven innings to lead the Nationals to a 5-2 win.

2010: The Marlins Mike Stanton makes his M.L. debut, going 3-5 with two runs scored in a 10-8 loss to the Phillies.

2012: Six Mariners combine to pitch a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the Dodgers. After starter Kevin Millwood leaves with an injury, relievers Charlie Furbush, Stephen Pryor, Lucas Luetge, Brandon League, and Tom Wihelmsen keep the Dodgers hitless.
 
June 9th:

1914: Honus Wagner becomes the second player in M.L. history to record 3,000 hits.

1934: In the eighth inning of the Red Sox 8-1 loss to the Senators, future Hall of Famer Lefty Grove becomes the first pitcher in M.L. history to allow six doubles in one inning.

1946: Giants manager Mel Ott is ejected from both games of a doubleheader against the Pirates. The Giants lose both games. 2-1 and 5-1.

1963: In the first Sunday night game in M.L. history, the Colt .45s defeat the Giants 3-0. The Colt 45s are granted permission to play night games on Sundays due to the heat and humidity in Houston.

1990: In a 5-4 win in 11 innings over the Padres, the Dodgers Eddie Murray homers from both sides of the plate for the tenth time, tying Mickey Mantle's record.

1999: After being ejected in the 12th inning by Randy Marsh, Mets manager Bobby Valentine returns to the dugout wearing a fake mustache and glasses to disguise himself. The stunt get him suspended two games by the National League.

2008: The Reds Ken Griffey, Jr. becomes the sixth player in M.L. history to hit 600 career home runs.

2010: The Diamondbacks defeat the Braves 2-1 thanks to a two run inside-the-park home run by Gerrardo Parra. The homer happens because Braves outfielders Jason Heyward and Nate McLouth violently collide trying to make the play.

2011: The A's fire manager Bob Geren and replace him with Bob Melvin.
 
June 10th:

1921: Babe Ruth hits his 120th career home run, becoming the all time leader in M.L. history.

1944: Just six weeks before his 16th birthday, the Reds Joe Nuxhall becomes the youngest player to appear in a M.L. game this century. In a 13-0 loss to the Cardinals, he allows five walks, two hits, a wild pitch, and five runs. Despite the rocky start, he would be a part of the Reds organization for over sixty years, becoming most known as a broadcaster.

1959: In an 11-8 win over the Orioles, the Indians Rocky Colavito becomes the sixth player in M.L. history to hit four home runs in a game.

1966: The Indians Sonny Siebert pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Senators.

1972: Hank Aaron hits a grand slam for his 649th career home run, passing Willie Mays for second on the all-time list. It was his 14th grand slam, tying Gil Hodges' N.L. record.

1997: The Marlins Kevin Brown pitches a no-hitter in a 9-0 win over the Giants.

2002: In the Mariners 10-0 win over the Cardinals, two Japanese position players are in the same game for the first time in M.L. history. Former teammates for the Orix Blue Waves in Japan, Ichiro Suzuki for the Mariners and So Taguchi for the Cardinals.

2011: In the Cardinals 8-0 loss to the Brewers, Tony LaRussa manages his 5,000th game.

2012: The Red Sox record their 745th straight sellout crowd at Fenway Park. That passes the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers for the most consecutive sellouts for a North American pro sports franchise.
 
June 11th:

1938: The Reds Johnny Vander Meer pitches the first of his two consecutive no-hitters in a 3-0 win over the Bees.

1957: The Dodgers Roy Campanella hits his 237th home runs, setting a N.L. record for catchers.

1968: The Reds trade Milt Pappas, Ted Davidson, and Bob Johnson to the Braves for Clay Carroll, Tony Cloninger, and Woody Woodard.

1981: The Mariners 8-2 over the Orioles is the last game played before the 50 day strike begins, causing a loss of 712 games.

1985: The Phillies Von Hayes becomes the first player in M.L. history to homer twice in the first inning. He does so in a 26-7 rout of the Mets.

1990: The Rangers Nolan Ryan pitches his sixth no-hitter in a 5-0 win over the A's. At age 43, he becomes the oldest in M.L. history to pitch a no-hitter.

2003: Six Astros pitchers combine to pitch a no-hitter against the Yankees. Roy Oswalt, Pete Munro, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel, and Billy Wagner combine for the no-hitter. It marked the first time since the 1958, by the Orioles Hoyt Wilhelm, that the Yankees were no-hit.

2013: Gerrit Cole makes his M.L. debut, pitching six shutout innings in an 8-2 Pirates win over the Giants.
 
June 12th:

1839: An erroneous eyewitness account gives Abner Doubleday credit for establishing the first baseball game played in America.

1880: At Worcester Fairgrounds, Lee Richmond pitches the first perfect game in M.L. history in a 4-0 win over Cleveland.

1939: In an exhibition against the Double-A Kansas City Blues, Lou Gehrig plays in his final game with the Yankees, playing three inning and grounding out in his only at bat.

1939: The Baseball Hall of Fame is dedicated in Cooperstown, New York.

1940: The Cardinals trade Ducky Medwick and pitcher Curt Davis to the Dodgers for outfielder Ernie Koy, pitcher Carl Doyle, two minor leaguers, and $125,000.

1946: The Veterans Committee elects Jack Chesbro to the Hall of Fame.

1954: The Braves Jim Wilson pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Phillies and future Hall of Famer Robin Roberts.

1954: During a 4-3 win over the Red Sox, the Indians Bob Feller records his 2,500th strikeout.

1957: Stan Musial plays in his 823rd straight game, setting a new N.L. record.

1970: The Pirates Dock Ellis pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Padres. Ellis would later claim that he was under the influence of LSD while pitching the no-hitter.

1979: The Tigers fire manager Les Moss and replace him with Sparky Anderson.

1981: The first in-season strike in M.L. history begins. The strike will last 50 days and cancel 712 games.

1996: Due to questionable comments about Adolph Hiter in an interview with ESPN, Marge Schott is forced to give up her role as Reds managing partner. In the interview, Schott said "Everybody knows [Hitler] was good at the beginning, but he just went too far".

1997: The Giants defeat the Rangers 4-3 in the first regular season interleague game in M.L. history.

2007: The Tigers Justin Verlander pitches a no-hitter in a 4-0 win over the Brewers.

2012: In a 6-4 win over the Braves, the Yankees Alex Rodriguez hits his 23rd career grand slam, tying Lou Gehrig's M.L. record.
 
June 13th:

1905: The Giants Christy Mathewson pitches his second no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the Cubs.

1913: The Giants Christy Mathewson wins his 300th game.

1930: Two batting champions are traded for each other when the Senators send Goose Goslin to the Browns for Heinie Manush.

1940: The Red Sox defeat the Cubs 10-9 at Doubleday Field in the first Hall of Fame game.

1948: The Yankees retire Babe Ruth's #3.

1957: In the Red Sox 9-3 win over the Indians, Ted Williams becomes the first player in A.L. history to have two three-home run games in the same season.

1975: The Indians trade Gaylor Perry to the Rangers for pitchers Jim Bibby, Jackie Brown, and Rick Waits along with $100,000.

1994: The Cubs Ryne Sandberg announces his sudden retirement. He would return in 1996 for two more seasons.

1999: With the Astros leading in the eighth inning, the game is suspended when manager Larry Dierker suffers a gran mal seizure.

1999: The Angels Omar Olivares ties a M.L. record when he hits four batters against the Diamondbacks.

2003: With a 5-2 Yankees victory over the Cardinals, Roger Clemens records his 300th win.

2012: The Giants Matt Cain pitches a perfect game in a 10-0 win over the Astros. In the game, Ted Barrett becomes the first umpire to be behind the plate for two perfect games. He called the David Cone perfect game against the Expos in 1999.
 
June 14th:

1876: George Hall of the Philadelphia Athletics becomes the first player in M.L. history to hit for the cycle.

1952: Braves scout Dewey Griggs signs Hank Aaron to a contract. Aaron had been playing for the Indianapolis Clowns of the Negro League. He is sent to the Braves Class-C team in Eau Clare, Wisconsin.

1956: The Cardinals trade Red Schoendienst, Bill Sarni, and Dick Littlefield to the Giants for Alvin Dark, Whitey Lockman, Ray Katt, and Don Liddle.

1966: In the longest uninterrupted baseball game ever played, the Miami Marlins defeat the St. Petersburg Cardinals 4-3 in 29 innings. The Florida State League game takes six hours and 59 minutes to play.

1985: After retiring two seasons earlier, Earl Weaver returns to manager the Orioles, replacing Joe Altobelli, who was his successor.

1990: The National League announces plans to expand from 12 to 14 teams for the 1993 season.

1996: Cal Ripken Jr. plays in his 2,216th consecutive game, setting a new world record.

1998: With a 4-2 win over the Indians, the Yankees win their 24th straight series, tying a M.L. record held by 1912 Red Sox and 1970 Reds.

2002: With 14 interleague games scheduled to be played all in N.L. parks. the Designated Hitter is not used in a regular season game for the first time since 1972.

2005: Before the seventh inning, the umpires are asked to look at the glove of Angels pitcher Brendan Donnelly. The umpires find a foreign substance and Donnelly is ejected. Angels manager Mike Scioscia and Nationals manager Frank Robinson exchange words, with starts a bench-clearing brawl.

2006: Despite being owed $22 million of the four year deal worth $33 million of his deal he signed in December of 2004, the Diamondbacks designate pitcher Russ Ortiz for assignment. Ortiz, who was 0-5 with a 7.54 ERA becomes the highest paid player to be cut from a M.L. team.
 
June 15th:

1938: Hall of Famer Billy Williams is born in Whistler, Alabama.

1938: The Reds Johnny Vander Meer pitches his second consecutive no-hitter in a 6-0 win over the Dodgers.

1958: Hall of Famer Wade Boggs is born in Omaha, Nebraska.

1963: The Giants Juan Marichal pitches a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the Colt .45s.

1968: The Phillies fire manager Gene Mauch and replace him with Bob Skinner.

1976: Massive flooding in the Houston area prevents the umpiring crew to make it to the Pirates/Astros game, causing the first postponement of a game at the Astrodome.

1976: The Orioles trade pitchers Ken Holtzman, Doyle Alexander, Jimmy Freeman, Grant Alexander and catcher Elrod Hendricks to the Yankees for pitchers Tippy Martinez, Rudy May, Scott McGregor, Dave Pagan, and catcher Rick Dempsey.

1977: The Mets trade Tom Seaver to the Reds for Pat Zachary, Doug Flynn, and two minor leaguers. The Mets also traded Dave Kingman to the Angels for Bobby Valentine and a minor leaguer.

1982: The Red Sox Jeff Reardon records his 341st save, breaking Rollie Fingers' M.L. record.

1983: The Cardinals trade Keith Hernandez to the Mets for pitchers Neil Allen and Rick Ownbey.

2005: Yankees owner George Steinbrenner announces plans for a new stadium in the Bronx.
 
June 16th:

1916: The Braves Tom Hughes pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Pirates.

1938: The Red Sox Jimmie Foxx walks six straight times in a 12-8 win over the Browns.

1978: The Reds Tom Seaver pitches a no-hitter in a 4-0 win over the Cardinals.

1991: In a 7-6 loss to the Expos, the Braves Otis Nixon ties a N.L. record with six stolen bases.

1996: Mel Allen, the longtime voice of the Yankees and host of "This Week In Baseball", dies at age 83.
 
June 17th:

1915: The Cubs George Washington Zabel sets the M.L. record for the longest relief pitching stint in a game, going 18 1/3 innings in a 4-3 win over the Robins in 19 innings. Brooklyn's Jeff Peffer pitched all 19 innings in the loss.

1943: In a split against the A's, the Red Sox player/manager Joe Cronin becomes the first player in M.L. history to hit pinch-home runs in both games of a doubleheader.

1960: Ted Williams hits his 500th home run.

1970: The Cubs Ernie Banks and the Giants Willie Mays become the first players with 500 or more home runs to homer in the same game in M.L. history. Banks hit his 504th and Mays his 615th in the Cubs 6-1 win.

1987: Former Yankees and Royals manager Dick Howser dies of a brain tumor at age 51.

1993: By a 26-2 vote, the owner approve expansion of the playoffs. Scheduled to begin in 1994, both leagues would have three division winners and a wild card team in addition to an additional playoff round.

2001: In a 5-2 loss to the Brewers, the Royals Blake Stein ties an A.L. record with eight straight strikeouts.

2005: In a 13-6 loss to the Indians, the Diamondbacks become the first team in M.L. history to allow ten runs in an inning for two consecutive games.

2007: In a 4-2 loss to the Nationals, the Blue Jays Frank Thomas hits his 244th career home run as a DH, breaking Edgar Martinez's record.

2009: The Astros Ivan Rodriguez makes his 2,227th appearance behind the plate, breaking Carlton Fisk's record. He did it against the Rangers, the team he broke into the majors with.
 
June 18th:

1938: The Dodgers sign Babe Ruth as a coach for the rest of the season.

1947: The Reds Ewell Blackwell pitches a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over the Braves.

1960: At 66 years old, the Giants Tom Sheehan becomes the oldest to make his debut as a manager in M.L. history.

1961: Eddie Gaedel, the 3'7" player hired by Bill Veeck to appear in one at bat for the Browns in 1951, is found dead at age 36.

1967: The Astros Don Wilson pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Braves.

1977: Reggie Jackson gets taken out the game against the Red Sox by manager Billy Martin after Jackson allowed a cheap hit by Jim Rice to turn into a double. Jackson and Martin have words in the dugout and have to be separated by coaches Yogi Berra and Elston Howard.

1979: Billy Martin returns for his second go-around as Yankees manager, replacing Bob Lemon.

1986: In a 4-1 victory over the Rangers, the Angels Don Sutton records his 300th win.

1989: The Phillies trade second baseman Juan Samuel to the Mets for outfielder Lenny Dykstra, relief pitcher Roger McDowell, and a player to be named later.

2001: Cal Ripken, Jr. announces he will retire at the end of the season.

2005: In the Braves 6-1 win over the Reds, 46-year old Julio Franco becomes the oldest player in M.L. history to hit multiple homers in the same game.

2007: The Orioles fire manager Sam Perlozzo and replace him on an interim basis with bullpen coach Dave Trembly.

2012: Roger Clemens is acquitted on all charges that he obstructed and lied to Congress during a 2008 hearing about his alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs.

2014: The Dodgers Clayton Kershaw pitches a no-hitter in an 8-0 win over the Rockies.

1846: The first organized baseball game is played between the New York Knickerbockers and the New York Nine.

1903: Lou Gehrig is born in New York City.

1927: The Phillies Jack Scott becomes the last pitcher in M.L. history to go the distance in both games of a doubleheader. He beat the Reds in the opener 3-1, but loses the nightcap 3-0.

1942: The Braves Paul Waner records his 3,000th hit.

1942: In a 5-4 Yankees loss to the Indians, Joe DiMaggio strikes out three times. In his career that went for 1,787 games, it was the only time he did so.

1952: The Dodgers Carl Erskine pitches a no-hitter in a 5-0 win over the Cubs.

1974: The Royals Steve Busby pitches his second no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Brewers.

1977: With five homers in an 11-1 win over the Yankees, the Red Sox set a M.L. record with 16 home runs in three games.

1990: In a 4-3 Giants loss to the Padres, Gary Carter sets a N.L. record by appearing in his 1,862nd game as a catcher.

1994: In a 3-1 win over the Blue Jays, the Tigers tie a M.L. record by homering in their 25th straight game.

1996: The Cardinals Ozzie Smith announces he will retire at the end of the season.

2008: The Mariners fire manager John McLaren and replace him with Jim Riggleman.

2008: In a 5-4 defeat to the Rangers, the Braves set a M.L. record when they lose their 22nd straight one-run game on the road.
 
June 20th:

1912: In the Giants 21-12 win over the Braves, the two teams combined to score 17 runs in the ninth inning. The Giants scored seven in the top half with the Braves scoring the final ten in the bottom half.

1950: Joe DiMaggio collects his 2,000th hit in the Yankees 8-2 win over the Indians.

1973: In a 7-5 loss to the Reds, the Giants Bobby Bonds sets the M.L. record with his 22nd career leadoff home run.

1982: Pete Rose becomes the fifth player in M.L. history to appear in 3,000 games.

1986: College football star Bo Jackson signs a deal to play for the Royals.

1991: Rangers catcher Ivan Rodriguez makes his M.L. debut against the White Sox. At age 19, he becomes the youngest to play catcher in M.L. history.

1997: The Reds call up Aaron Boone, son and grandson of former M.L. players Bob and Ray. To make room on the roster, the Reds demote his borther, Bret.

2001: Barry Bonds hits his 38th home run of the season, breaking the M.L. record for homers hit before the All-Star Break.

2003: The Marlins Miguel Cabrera collects his first M.L. hit, a two run walk-off homer in the 11th inning to beat the Devil Rays.

2004: Ken Griffey, Jr. hits his 500th career home run.

2007: The Rangers Sammy Sosa becomes the fifth player in M.L. history to hit 600 home runs, doing off one of his former teams, the Cubs.

2008: The Blue Jays fire manager John Gibbons and replace him with former skipper Cito Gaston.

2011: The Marlins announce that 80-year old Jack McKeon will take over as manager on an interim basis, replacing Edwin Rodriguez, who resigned the prior day.
