Top TV Shows

Yes, it really is—and, speaking of Matt Walsh, the first season of Upright Citizens Brigade should definitely have been on my list. I also enjoyed him in the short-lived Dog Bites Man, which moreover featured a young Zach Galifianakis (as well as A.D. Miles and Andrea Savage).

Thanks for mentioning Upright Citizens Brigade. I always have an ample amount of ass-pennies on hand to dole out for retribution. One of my favorite skits ever.

So many interesting little sketch and comedy shows have cropped up because of Comedy Central. I thought Reno 911 worked well out of the gate, but hung on a couple of seasons too long. Like Matt Walsh, Thomas Lennon has this "make me laugh" ability regardless of how small the part. Matt Walsh has a short bit in the new Ferrell/Hart comedy and is hilarious.

One I totally forgot (mainly because it goes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back and no one here has likely seen it) is Fernwood 2 Night. Parody talk show starring Martin Mull and Fred Willard that grew out of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. There's a few episodes on YouTube. Always fun to watch because you see a lot of young stars playing guest characters (Robin Williams, Paul Reubens). Some of the regular guests included Kenneth Mars, Jim Varney, Dabney Coleman, and Bill Kirchenbauer in their roles as Fernwood residents. It's a bit dated now, but Mull and Willard were just fantastic as Barth Gimble and Jerry Hubbard, a very twisted Johnny Carson/Ed McMahon send-up.

As for Game of Thrones, I'm one of those cranky literalists and when the show started deviating from the books, it kind of turned me away from the show. So I'll admit my disappointment is more about me than about the show. I still watch. Dinklage and Headey keep bringing me back.

A great one that doesn't get remembered as often is The Larry Sanders Show. It was almost a proto-Curb Your Enthusiasm (one of my all-time faves) in the way it features Hollywood types mercilessly portraying exaggerated Hollywood assholery. It was an awesome platform for Jeffrey Tambor, too.

Damn, not sure how I forgot about that one. It was a little before my time, but the reruns I have caught are EXCELLENT.

Yeah, that was part of it, but he aimed for the head and missed by a pretty good margin.

I mean that Boone's gonna get the first shot in but Raylan will be wearing kevlar.

I see it going down the same way as Boone and that kid. Except Raylan will blow the cunts head off while hes gloating

I knew what you meant. :icon_biggrin: I'm just saying that the bad aim will also play a part, in my opinion. I agree that Raylan will get shot first. Or dip**** Boone will get so excited he'll forget about the empty chamber.

So rain is going to thwart my work and tennis the next few days. I've decided to be a lazy bum and find a show to binge. Will I really really like House of Cards in binge or is it a show I have to give time in between eps to appreciate it.

No. And I noticed HBO on Demand has the first few seasons up. Does this answer both of our questions? Looks like I'm playing the wrong cards, need to go wire to wire.

The Wire is awesome, but be forewarned, you are going to want to reach into your television and strangle a character or two periodically, especially Jimmy McNulty played by Dominic West.

Now when you say strangle, are you meaning I want to strangle them because of the writing being that engaging to the audience, or strangle them like Jax Teller and Rick Grimes where I want to strangle them and slap every ounce of stupidity from their character because that's how much I hate them and wish they were gone from the show?

Justified is over. I liked the ending, not as messy as was hinted at or full of ambiguous loose ends like other popular long-running shows have done, but I thought they wrapped it up well. The show feels over and I guess that's what an ending should do.

edit: Also a great last line, "We dug coal together."

Dominic West is a British actor and he doesn't have the best Baltimore accent. Aside from that hes a good character and West is a fine actor.

But the actors don't matter. The writing on the show is unrivaled.
