Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

While none of the guys the Braves are likely to sell will bring back much of anything, grouping 2-3 of them together might bring back a B prospect. Or allow them to attach CJ.

Most contenders need a BP arm like JJ, and many also need a RHed bat (Gomes/Uribe/Maybin) or a LHed bat (KJ/AJ). Some teams need help at C. JJ plus one of those bats could be enough to get a decent player back.

Justin Upton is getting interest from Baltimore, Houston, and the Mets. Not sure how much truth there is to this, if any. Justin is from Virginia, so maybe Baltimore would be an ideal landing spot for him.

I think Maybin would bring back a good return. The Giants, Cardinals, Astros, Mariners, Twins, Rangers, and Mets have all got a .660 OPS or worse from CF this year so far. The Giants are the favorites in my opinion. The Braves want a good young/cheap catcher and the Giants have Andrew Susac backing up Posey. Maybe since Hudson isnt pitching so well they would be happy to be rid of him and we can bring him back to finish his career with the Braves.

Looks like the Pirates are also in on Upton. It stands to reason that teams interested in Upton or Carlos Gomez could also check in on Maybin.

Also, one of the national reporters mentioned last week that Juan Uribe would be a potential fit for the Pirates after the Josh Harrison injury. That need may have gotten greater with yesterday's Jordy Mercer injury, as Kang may need to play SS instead of 3B for the foreseeable future.

#Pirates interested in Justin Upton, but they will prioritize an infielder if Jordy Mercer is out for extended period. Holding pattern now.

With guys like Uribe, Maybin, KJ, Gomes, CJ and possibly Peraza available, the Braves could be a one stop shop for the Pirates.

Quite the pipe dream, but I'd love to be a one-stop shop for the Pirates. Maybin and Uribe for Reese McGuire and Harold Ramirez would be an ideal deal for us IMO. We could even eat a little of their money for this season if need be. Then re-sign Uribe this winter in the event the Pirates don't.

If you REALLY wanted to daydream (and the Pirates' scouts see something they could fix with him quickly), how about a real blockbuster - Teheran, Maybin, and Uribe for Tyler Glasnow, McGuire, and Ramirez. You could then see if you could work out an extension similar to Julio's with Miller.

Exactly. They actually do HAVE TO have 25 guys on the active roster for 10 more weeks!!!

It's not a question of having 25 guys. There are warm bodies in AAA and non prospect AA guys who could play right now, but not well. So, it's not about putting a competitive product on the field the rest of the way, or at least it shouldn't be the first consideration.

The FO should be able to "work the waiver wire" and maximize current value for future benefit especially since they now have worked through the Freddie (and coaches) extension

At a minimum, guys who should NOT be here come Aug 1 include (but not necessarily limited to): CL Johnson, 3B/1B Johnson, Util Johnson, C AJ Pierzinski, 3B Uribe, OF Maybin, LR Avilan. None of those guys are long term Braves and even if you only get low minors high ceiling talent, it needs to be done.

Guys who should be on the table for the right deal: Everybody else.

Not sure where to put it, so here: Wonder if the Braves will take a chance on Ryan Buchter again. He was pitching great for the Dodgers AAA team, but he was granted his release since they couldn't find room for him.

My guess is that Wren & Company will take a chance on anybody who's willing to sign a minor league deal in the second half. As long as they don't require the use of a 40-Man Roster spot, why not???

Maybin and Uribe seem like perfect fits for them. We could also sweeten the deal by taking Tabata back.

Susac from the Giants is very interesting. They have a need in CF and would need a backup C if they traded him. I wonder if a package from the group of Maybin, AJ, CB and JJ would get Susac.

As far as the Pirates go, they could be interested in Uribe, KJ and Peraza for their IF, KJ and Maybin for their OF, and of course JJ to add to their BP. Surely a package from that group could bring back a good prospect.

No matter which players they trade away or what teams they trade with, I would much rather see the Braves package a few of these guys together to get one good prospect rather than sell them individually for a bunch of organizational fillers.

Maybin may not be a long-term Brave, but he certainly could be a 2016-2017 Brave. As I've stated before, I would be willing to part with him, but only if you get enough back.

If Mallex doesn't work out, we'd be in desperate need of an OF. Who is the type of guy we'd be looking for? A guy like Maybin.

Maybin is a good sell high candidate. Between Peraza, Smith, Eury Perez, Mycal Jones, Lipka, Lien and Cunningham, we have CF covered both long-term and near-term.

Susac is a potential long term solution at C, and is only a backup because he is stuck behind Posey. I am also against trading Maybin just to trade him, but a potential long term answer at a position of need is exactly the type of return I would be trying to get with a package of the short term vets on the current roster.

The problem is, we know nothing about any of those guys. Perez and Cunningham are likely AAAA guys, we have no idea if Peraza can play CF or in the majors at all, and there are still serious questions about Mallex.

Sure, it's certainly possible we have our answer at CF already. My point is that we don't know, and Maybin is a good piece to give us time to find out and go get somebody else if necessary. He's a sell-high candidate, but there is also reason to believe he really has turned a corner into a productive major league player.

I'm not just going to give him away for anything when he fills a position of need for us. It just doesn't make much sense to me. Peraza isn't really a CF and Mallex will at least need a good bit of time in AAA again next year. If we have any desire to compete next year, or even in 2017, it makes sense to keep Maybin around unless the offer is too good.

Sure there is uncertainty about every player I listed. There is uncertainty about Maybin too. Look at how much his performance has bounced around from year to year. And how often he has missed time due to injury. I also wonder if the dip in his defensive performance this year is a blip or the start of a long-term decline.
