Trade deadline thread

We will see what they do this offseason, I am sure they are more than willing to throw crazy money at Ohtani, etc.

Yeah, they could get Ohtani and Snell in the off-season they would be looking good with Diaz coming back. Maybe need another bat as well, even with Ohtani.

Spending $50+ million a year for 10 years on a soon to be 30 year old outfielder/pitcher is totally a Mets move.

Dont see Ohtani going to the Mets, regardless of how much money they offer. He seems like a West Coast guy too.

Does he really want to be the next Mike Trout?

Easy to talk your self into the long term outlook for the team when the owner is willing to foot a 450m payroll for a 70 win team.

Mets have always been successful recruiting Japanese players. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ohtani signed there

I've always liked Blake Snell, but I don't trust him to stay healthy or to continue pitching this. Some team is gonna quickly regret his future contract, imo.

Aaron Civale to the Rays for a top 40 prospect (50 FV)

Civale is essentially the veteran version of Bryce Elder so maybe this is a nice reminder to us all how valuable Elder is.

Civale is probably better on a rate basis than Elder, but his problem has been one of quantity. The guy doesn't have a track record of making enough starts to be the MOR his rate stats suggest he is.

Since Cleveland was very clearly looking for MLB-ready offense, the equivalent return from the Braves would have been Grissom. While Grissom is likely blocked in Atlanta for his entire career, I'd like to see him used in a deal for something better than Elder with a better curve.

Lot of action around Pham and Canha now. Not much on Quintana detected. Verlander remains the big Mets chip/story and due to all the issues (no trade, option, etc.), they’d prefer to have a framework in place today for JV deal.
