Trade deadline thread

Civale is probably better on a rate basis than Elder, but his problem has been one of quantity. The guy doesn't have a track record of making enough starts to be the MOR his rate stats suggest he is.

Since Cleveland was very clearly looking for MLB-ready offense, the equivalent return from the Braves would have been Grissom. While Grissom is likely blocked in Atlanta for his entire career, I'd like to see him used in a deal for something better than Elder with a better curve.

Would you move Grissom for Bednar, Scheff?

hell yes.. 3 more years.. problem is Riggy going to be ok with moving to setup. I mean, an org shouldn't care if he cares, but twit is that guy that sort of lets players run the ship. So I don't think getting a closer is on board right now.. not unless riggy 'oks' it first.

This was the one I wanted.. I was secretly hoping AA would prove me wrong with this trade and it looks even more like I am right.

Doesnt even look like it cost that much. Two 40 FV's, and a non ranked player according to pipeline. Surely AA could have beat that offer.

Whether the Braves trade for a closer or not will not be Snitker's choice, it's AA's.

That's a AA move, not Snitker.

you would hope and might be true.. but when Jansen was acquired, Smith ok'd it.. I want to say there was another too. Seems like they at least like to pretend they care how the other players feel.

Figured Sewald would bring back more. I’m guessing AA already has the player identified he wants and is working to get him. I’m with Cheff in thinking it’s an impact starter.

Idk who or what he's doing, just find it hard to believe all we do is a backup IF'er, and a middle RP for a team as good as ours.

Like we’ve all said, if it doesn’t move the needle then it’s pointless. Our offense is set and the only place to upgrade is pitching and an impact pitcher is all we need. Whether that’s in the bp or a sp who knows. Bednar, Rodriguez, and Verlander are probably the 3 impact guys out there that could really help a lot. Lorenzen could help bc he can start or relieve.

I bet Verlander gets traded. He’s not gonna want to stick around at his age. The Mets can tell him they are going after Ohtani or whoever but that doesn’t mean they’ll get him. I think the Dodgers swoop in and get him. Braves are a dark horse bc AA has wanted him for awhile.

Meh, "controllable BP arm" isn't a premium asset to me due to the volatility of BP arms in general. Remember how Iglesias was supposed to be an elite "controllable BP arm"?

But yeah, Bednar is the type of impact arm I expect AA to be targeting. I haven't seen anything that makes me think he's available though. The Pirates think they are closer to contending than they actually are, so getting players with a few years of control like Reynolds or Bednar from them is harder than it should be.
