Trade deadline thread

I wonder if the Pirates would trade Andrew McCutchen. He could out hit Rosario in his sleep and while he's been a DH mostly this year, I'm not sure his defense could be worse than Rosario. Contract wise he's cheap and a rental. He also might want to go to a contender.

So we got 2 pen guys.. both have to be on 40man and neither have options. Wonder what happens when Minter and Lee come back and then eventually Jessie.. What about Max too..

who has options left.. Daysbel clearly.. Tonkin or Heler have any left?? Minter will be ready pretty soon.. do you just DFA Hearn or send one of those guys down? I would think Hearn has to stay since he would be the only other lefty. Tonkin and Heler have been effective.. So I guess Daysbel goes down..

I assume when Max is called up, Wall goes down since we are only carrying 12 pitchers right now. I think any other trades will require some tough decisions. We might be done.

I think Hearn has options. At least that's what I read this morning.

Also, there are some position players on the roster we could DFA. Hilliard, Culberson, etc.

There's enough roster flexibility to add a couple more players. Could always make a trade with a player from the 26 man roster. I'd be surprised if this is all we do. Still have Culberson, Hilliard, could move one of Yates/JoJim/McHugh in a trade, etc.
 
I read where Lee threw a bullpen, and Minter was expected to do so soon.

Jesse Chavez got typhoid and has died per the Oregon Trail news report.

I think there's an understanding between the Pirates and Cutch that they won't trade him. But maybe he wants a chance at a ring.

Yeah, no doubt they'd only deal him with his consent. But the Braves do have the highest chance of winning the series of any team in baseball at the moment. I think he'd probably at least think about agreeing to a trade to Atlanta.

I think if we get an outfielder, we need a LH bat.
 
I don't think the 40 man is an issue either.. we can dfa some players for sure.. but looking at active roster (pitchers) we are carrying 10 right now.. plus Hearn and Pierce. I assume when Max is ready (soonest) Wall goes down and we have 13 pitchers (max)..

Minter starts rehab this week I believe, so he would be next to be ready.. at that point we have to option or DFA someone to the minors. That is where everything starts to get tough. start trading for more pitching and those decisions get tougher. After Minter we have Lee/Jessie/Anderson/Wright... since we don't know their status, we probably should assume they are at least a month away or done for season.

Lots of buzz out there in the Twitterverse about Braves interest in Adam Duvall. Which for me begs the question, what does Duvall give us that Kevin Pillar doesn't? I think Pillar is a great RHH 4th outfielder, good enough defender to play a little center, good numbers against lefties. All for $5M less.
