Trade Deadline: What are you willing to do?

I would start asking for more but would settle just for Frazier. Ender is a fourth OF on a good team. Viz may or may not be a closer. Right now he's a closer without a real track record.

You may be right about Viz, but I think you are selling Ender a bit short. (ducks in preparation for a pile of numbers about to be thrown at me to prove Ender is nothing but a 4th OF). :tchop:

Or both could lose value. There is a very real chance that Ender is what he's showing now. That last year or him was an effect of playing in Arizona on a good hitting team and he had an abnormally good year. Viz could very well show that he isn't closer material. Or he could get hurt or have another suspension episode.

I know it's the fashion to believe in the Braves players, especially when the narrative starts out positive. "The Braves fleeced Arizona because they got both Ender AND Swanson AND Blair while Ender alone was worth almost Miller!" Ender gets a lot of goodwill without ever playing an inning and it's hard to come off that goodwill. While Olivera, even without the domestic violence issues, started the other way: " I can't believe they GAVE Wood (and others) away for a 31 YO who's never been in the ML!" It's easier to give up on Olivera, because he started in a perception hole while Ender keeps getting the love even though he really hasn't done anything to earn it as a Brave.

The Braves BADLY need a RH power OF bat who is ML ready (or close) and who is under control and hopefully not expensive.

Frankly, if I'm the Cleveland GM, Viz, Inciarte, Krol and AJP isn't enough. But, given the opportunity that faces Cleveland, they may decide it's worth it to go for it.

If Frazier turns into a bust, then it's a terrible trade for the Braves. If he becomes a better than league average RF and supplies some RH power to fit into the middle of the Braves ML lineup, then it's a huge win no matter what Viz, Ender and Krol ultimately do in there careers.

but sometimes you have to trust the talent you have on the field. I think Ender is about a 2 War player on any team and has struggled this year due to being on and off DL and not having any good players around him. I agree, he is not a super star in the making but I think he holds more value than another piece of a trade. I have faith that he will rebound offensively to a .275/.310 guy and with his Defense, becomes a valuable chip this off season.

Viz is not a flash in the pan that came from no where.. so again, I have faith he will bounce back from his recent struggles (and they were not huge struggles) and also be a good chip this off season.

I am fine with trading both of these players, but I think their values are lower than what they can show and it is worth the gamble to let them try and rebuild the value. That said, some might value Frazier higher than I do.. and if so, then go for it.

**and I would trade Krol just to get rid of AJP right now..

You might be right and we will probably have a chance to see because I don't think the Braves are going to move either right now. However, I think Frazier is just the type bat the team needs and Ender and Viz are an acceptable cost to get him.

I might feel differently if the Braves didn't have Mallex, essentially a mirror of Ender with a bit better offensive potential, a bit less defense, but controllable longer and not as expensive).

I guess I can't see either Viz or Ender every rebounding to a level where they alone would be worth the #23 prospect in baseball, a prospect who essentially a perfect fit for the Braves needs assuming he comes anywhere close to what he is projected to do.

the expendability factor could definitely help me be in favor of this trade. Viz and Ender are not 'needed' pieces on the team.. Ender and Mallex are interchangeable minus the arm (boy that is a good arm).. and Viz is just a luxury and our pen is going to be good without him barring injuries. I like Krol.. but like I said.. getting rid of AJP before end of year is worth Krol alone.

I personally don't consider Ender or Viz spare parts. Ender is not a 4th OFer... He's a better player than he's shown this year. He's been hampered my nagging injuries
Inciarte's value has taken a hit similar to what happened to Teheran in the first half of last year. I expect a similar recovery.

Was his exit velocity low last year as well? I know you can be successful punching line drives and ground ers to the off field, but his contact has been pretty putrid this year.

Inciarte and Mallex are completely redundant players, and one of them needs to be moved for another type of asset. The Rays are the kind of team that would value Inciarte highly, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade with them centered around Matt Moore.

I agree with your main point, but it's highly unlikely we trade Inciarte to the Rays given that they already have their own Inciarte in Kiermaier under control for 4 more years. Not a fit there at all.

How about the Rockies? They have hitting and no pitching. We are the opposite.

They love Velocity. Folty is trending. I'm not sold on Folty.

Folty+ Jenkins for McMahon, Tapia (maybe partner with D Perterson in LF), Murphy.

I would be looking to next year and trying to buy low on some SP where other teams may look to salary dump.

Maybe work a deal with Minnesota for one or more of Nolasco, Santana and Hughes. Maybe pick up Wander Javier as part of the deal.

Maybe work a deal with Pittsburgh for one or both of Niese and Locke.

Would be in favor of bringing back Ervin.

Jenkins for Murphy maybe. Otherwise, I'd pass personally.

I think with the injuries to the Dodger rotation, they may be looking to make a splash...possibly for JT. They lost Greinke, and have a bunch of question marks after Kershaw.

Do they have the positional studs to make it happen in the minors?

I looked, and without inlcuding a top ender like De Leon and Bellinger it looks doubtful. Most of the intl guys they signed are a ways off (something I'm not against taking back in a trade per se, but it should take more of those far off positional prospects )

Wonder if we could pry Pederson from them for LF.

Not to fond on Puig.. at least not for JT. Also, I don't think the Dodgers know what they are going to do. Kershaw is a ? himself. and if they lose him, then why even trade for anyone, because they can't win without him.
