Trade targets?

I think the approach at the deadline will be measured. Anthopoulos has done a good job of making other teams overvalue our prospects, so he may be able to fool someone again. Some of the guys who he may be willing to move are Hackenberg, Maier, and Kuehler, although he'd probably want more than an expiring contract for any of those guys.

I don’t think the chances were/are good that any of the three would be dealt regardless, but I wonder how much, if at all, calling the young pitchers up early, only for them to faceplant, hurt their value.

The three I mentioned are college guys and two are in Augusta and one is in Rome. They all are interesting although I think Hackenberg's ceiling isn't as high as the other two.

It depends on what they want to do at the deadline. There will undoubtedly be upgrades available for the bench and, if they think they need it, the bullpen. We don't know who will be available and what will be the asking price for any of them. If it's a higher-profile guy or someone like Robert with the ability to control beyond this season, they will likely have to pony up and I don't know what the Braves have to offer outside of guys in this tier of prospects.

Top trade targets ranked:

1. Randy Arozarena. Before you come at me, he's been super unlucky on BABIP. Starting to turn things around in July.

2. Joc Pederson

3. Starling Marte

4. Jesse Winker

5. Randal Grichuk

6. Lars Nootbar

That's from the teams I think we be likely sellers at the deadline. There are 3-4 other guys I would add to the list if I was sure their team would be sellers.

1 and 4 are my preferences

No way would I touch that contract for Soler. Pederson and Grichuk probably wont be available until very late July if at all. Marte is owed a whole lotta money this year and next. Mets would have to eat a ton of that. And I dont think the Nats want to sell until the last minute unless they tank hard in wildcard standings. The Angels are out of it and have some good options if they ever do the firesale they have needed for Trouts entire career. I would go after their SS Zach Neto. Perfect blend of being good but not so good that he should cost a ton with lots of service time left. Very average all around but for league minimum and based on who he would be replacing thats a big upgrade for us.

It's tough because 13 of the 15 NL teams are very much in this thing, only 3 games under .500 at worst. Who knows what that will be in a month but nothing is going to happen there right now.

The good thing is that I think the Braves have figured their **** out. The team looks comfortable now. I think we need to find someone to either platoon with Duvall or replace him altogether. Nacho Alvarez may eventually be the answer for Arcia, but I doubt we make any changes there.

Braves OF xwOBA vs RHP (excluding Acuna):

Harris II, Michael .314
Kelenic, Jarred .313
Laureano, Ramón .282
Duvall, Adam .198
Martínez, J.P. .147
Wall, Forrest .073

Harris and Kelenic aren't going anywhere vs RHP, an while guys like Laureano, Martinez and Wall have tiny sample sizes, nobody can realistically expect them to contribute much.

Braves OF xwOBA vs LHP (excluding Acuna):

Laureano, Ramón .879
Anderson, Brian .515
Duvall, Adam .473
Wall, Forrest .396
Harris II, Michael .309
Kelenic, Jarred .221

Duvall is legit vs LHP, and Laureano may be. Harris likely isn't going to be platooned, but Kelenic most likely should be.

At a bare minimum AA needs a legit OF option vs RHP to move Duvall back into a platoon role. Depending on how long Harris is going to be out, he could also grab a legit option vs LHP to pair with this new bat, but it might be OK to just roll with the mediocre options he already has vs LHP.

Here's the xwOBA of all OFers on the Rox, Marlins, Angels, As, and ChiSox with more than 100 PAs vs RHP:

Sánchez, Jesús .393
Ward, Taylor .355
Chisholm Jr., Jazz .353
Bleday, JJ .347
Butler, Lawrence .341
Pham, Tommy .321
Doyle, Brenton .313
Benintendi, Andrew .305
Cave, Jake .303
Adell, Jo .298
Gordon, Nick .295
Moniak, Mickey .287
Brown, Seth .275

Anyone below about Pham isn't much of an upgrade. He seems to be what everyone thinks Kelenic is.

Bleday is very interesting to me.

Bleday would probably be the most expensive of that list being he is controlled that long. Hard to see where he fits when acuna is back and Harris is back next year. Are we trading Kelenic then.

I know Washington is still technically in it, but I feel pretty confident they will sell. And in that case, give me Jesse Winker.

D-Backs have started playing better this month. I was confident at the end of May that they would be sellers, having lost Kelly for the season and Carroll having a sophomore slump. Now I am not so sure. But would obviously love to have Joc back.

Hmm, yeah they should probably be targeting a rental OFer. I think the thought of dealing with Oakland again is what has me wanting him.

Interesting to see Benintendi on that list at .305 when ESPN just wrote an article about him being on pace for the worst b-WAR in history. He must be terrible in the OF AND have the worst luck imaginable.

I'd say go for Robert. He'd be the closest thing to an Acuña replacement. Sets us up nice for the long term as well. Pick up the option on Ozuna in the offseason and next year let the pieces fall where they may. Also give Nacho a call and see what he can do.

I like Waldrep but hes not untouchable imo. Iglesias has one more year left and Minter is a FA after this year. Would a Waldrep for Mason Miller trade work? We may have to add a piece but he’s the guy i’d target.

I would dump Waldrep in a second if a team values him as a 2 or 3.

Oakland is the type of team that would value Waldrep and we have made all of our biggest trades with them so maybe they would. For Mason Miller it would probably take another player on our end.

Thanks, I wasn’t sure where Robert would fit in this roster. But now that you’ve listed it out I understand.
