Trying to be realistic with my deadline hopes. Given AA's history, it is unlikely we make a major trade. The most noteworthy trade deadline deals we have made under AA are for relievers. Given that information, here are some players I think are realistic targets for us (sorry to the Roberts/Crochet fans):
Luis Rengifo - immediate replacement for Ozzie. Can also play SS, 3b, and OF, though I don't know good his defense is at SS. His current stat line seems a bit inflated, but he should provide a decent enough bat at 2b until Ozzie returns and he potentially could take over SS if Arcia continues to struggle or partake is some sort of 3 way platoon with Kelenic and Duvy once Harris returns from injury.
Isaih Kiner-Falefa - basically the same story as Rengifo, although his bat historically is much worse.
Brandon Lowe- Probably unlikely given his acquisition cost and the Rays being notoriously aggressive with their asking prices. But he plays great either in the OF or at 2b.
Mike Yastrzemski - maybe the best remaining OFer available. Solid bat paired with good OF defense. Definitely a platoon player though. Him and Duvy could make for a very nice duo.
Taylor Ward - honestly not as bad of an option as I originally thought. Still would be rather disappointed if he was our top option.
Matt Vierling - not inspiring at all, but a decent bat with some pop.
Lane Thomas - the most boring of the boring options. And that is what makes him even more likely that we trade for him, imo.
Now on to pitchers. Assuming Lopez is done, this is where I would place my focus, and spend more in terms of prospect capital. These are my top realistic choices:
Jack Flaherty - perfect replacement for Lopez. Acquisition cost will be somewhat substantial, but nothing that will destroy the farm (like a Crochet trade likely would). Flaherty being a FA at the end of the year is a bit troublesome, but it could give us an edge in signing him as a cheaper option to Fried.
Zack Littell - mid rotation type of pitcher. Doesn't walk many batters. Effectively is another Morton.
Jameson Taillon - far less likely, imo. Solid pitcher having a career year, but has benefitted from a good amount of luck. Cubs would need to eat a good bit of the remaining contract.
Eric Fedde - Some concern that he's gonna turn back into a pumpkin given his age and history. We could certainly do worse, but I would hope we set our sights higher.
