Trades/acquisitions

Our 2 biggest trade pieces essentially control if they are traded or not. So that possibly plays a part in why we aren't selling. As far as buying, it's been discussed ad nauseam.

Folks around here are just whining irrationally. All of this has been discussed and all of it is possible, yet the whiners want to bitch and moan about how poor the FO is.

In your opinion does Pache still hold enough value to be the centerpiece of a trade that brings back a significant piece from a non-contender, either today or in the offseason? Or did his abysmal performance with the bat this year combined with his less than stellar hitting in AAA knock him down a bit?

In my opinion, Pache is still as untouchable as always specifically because selling low on an asset is a terrible idea. The plan is probably to let Heredia handle CF next year and hope one of Waters or Pache progress.

If we get difference makers, I think we are more likely to acquire Ian Kennedy as our reliever and Whit Merrifeild as our bat.

If we get marginal players , I think it will be Joakim Soria and Asdrubal Cabrera or David Peralta.

Taylor Rogers is on the IL, but he's another guy who is controlled beyond this season. He's a LH reliever and with Smith and Matzek already with the big club and Minter likely to return, he might not be a fit.

I hear we’re making Dansby and Charlie Morton available in an attempt to land Tatis Jr. from the Padres with hopes of making it a three way deal for Craig Kimbrel to also join Atlanta. What say you, Jon Heyman?

I think folks are just starting to question his true abilities. Just because he went to the university of the Dodgers doesn’t make him smarter than others. Just because he got lucky with the one year JD decided to be good and healthy, and the one year Ozuna decided to be good doesn’t make him a genius. He still hasn’t reigned in our idiot of a manger and has made several head scratchers of moves. If anything I think he has learned if he flies just under the radar then he will remain safe.

So no I don’t think it is fair to call him a crap GM. But I do think it is fair to start to question his tactics and or abilities. Hell we can do this solely on the fact he came in as this analytical guy but has yet to get those analytics into game decisions. Been 3 freaking years.

This is fair

The Braves have won 3 straight division titles, and were 1 win from the WS last year. All this done with a middling payroll and barely touching the farm. Yet here we are, whiny folks with unrealistic expectations for a mid-market payroll still comparing moves made by powerhouse franchises to the Braves.

Wake up and smell reality already. The Braves have mid-market resources, and are performing very well for that level of resources. This year is an anomaly for several obvious reasons, and the club is well positioned to be right back in the thick of things next year.

While I also want the Braves to upgrade the manager position, reality (there's that word again) dictates that a dinosaur who is very popular in the clubhouse is currently steering the ship, and has gotten very good results until this year. I have no doubt an upgrade will be made when it doesn't involve firing a popular winning manager in the middle of his current contract.

Why wouldn't he get a NTC for somewhere else? Seems to be the standard with elite FAs. If he gets less than 5/125 I would be very surprised. Someone will probably pay him 7/150.

PLUS a NTC from today's GMs??? No way.

Think about it - even the number-crunchers here are leery of giving him Goldschmidt money. Everyone is so worried about declining production from players in their mid-30s that no one other than the richest franchises are willing to go there. Think about it - San Diego is DESPERATE to unload Hosmer's money because he isn't a .275/.350./500, 30+ HR guy. They've got $42 million tied up in Hosmer and Myers for 2022, and you can make the argument that the two of them should be platooning at 1B.

Those other GMs might give Freddie that kind of money in the hopes that they win it all while he's still an MVP candidate (2-3 more seasons), but if they gave him a NTC on top of that they couldn't even buy their way out from under him by including their top prospect at that point. We're talking about a Pujols-type situation.

Honest question: would you take Hosmer back in a deal if you got one of their top 3 prospects back? Now ask yourself how much more they'd have to give you if you had to pay Freeman an extra $40 million (and possibly more to get him to waive that NTC)?

We close to a deal .... little “birdy” just whispered in my ear.... and we buying and biggly.

I smell bull****
