Trades You'd Make At The Drop Of A Hat...

Mentioned it the other day. I'm fine with our consistent 7-10 hit nights. You put Freeman back in the lineup and we are going to score a bunch of runs. The pitching is finally getting to last year's level and the offense is soooo much better.

How do you even come up with this stuff? A 7 hit night would put the team about 10% below the worst team in the league at getting hits (Mets at 7.75 hits/game). Of course, this ignores a ton of other items that actually correlate to runs scored like ability to get on base and ability to hit for power. This statement is essential, "I'm fine with getting the same number of hits as 10% below the leagues worst and 10% above the leagues best.

This team isn't a high scoring team so the statement saying the Braves are going to score a bunch of runs is odd. They are currently below average and 11th in the National League in runs scored. (and 11th in wOBA)

While I agree with your sentiment and I certainly don't want to argue against my own position, I think you have to keep in mind that Votto calls home to pretty much a band box stadium (not Coors Field like) but small none the less.

Yes, and wrc+ is park-adjusted.

Two of Folty/Banuelos/Wisler/Fried, Peraza, and Mallex Smith at a minimum, plus you'd have to swallow all the money.

The Phillies aren't going to trade him within the division and have him beat them for the next 4 and a half years unless someone SERIOUSLY overpays IMO.

The Phils already have Mallex Smith in Ben Revere. They would likely be targeting someone like Davison.

Makes sense. (why haven't they traded Papelbon yet?) Do you think they would want another version of Revere?

I think Amaro is the worst GM in the business. Papelbon/Hamels/Utley/Howard/Revere should have all been gone a while ago now.

Revere is a nice complimentary piece on a team which is more well-rounded, but he's basically useless to the Phillies in their current state. So, yeah, I could see them ostensibly being interested in a guy like Mallex to help out down the road.

I would think they would be after higher upside guys that are further away from the majors to roll off the current vets.

I don't see how he gets rid of Utley or Howard. (especially Howard)

That would be logical, but they've only brought in around four prospects (by and large AA guys) via trade since last season so it's hard to get a grasp on what the hell they envision. MacPhail should right that ship. Unlike the Braves, the Phillies also have the financial wherewithal to 'reload' in like 1 season.

I think that Howard/Utley are movable, provided their contracts are 85% paid ... if Utley is healthy dude can still hit and Howard needs to DH somewhere pronto. Heck, I'd stick Utley at 3B next season over any of our options.

They are 11th because they are missing their best hitter. The few weeks prior to Freemans injury they were starting to score a bunch of runs. Forgive me for thinking that was going to continue. Yes, I know. The team is awful and that its impossibleto even consider them being good.

Even if Uribe is one of those options?

I think they were 10th or 11th when Freeman went down.

No, they aren't and no, they weren't.

That's tough. I think there's slightly more upside with Utley (assuming he's healthy and cheap) but Uribe has been pretty stellar and I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him back ... at the right price (~$5MM).
