Viz and Teheran listed as top trade candidates

Would we do Teheran and Vizcaino for Moncada and Benintendi?

We would in a heartbeat (or I would hope we would, I'd question the FO's sanity if they didn't), but no way in hell Boston would. They wouldn't move Moncada for those two by himself.

Throw in Olivera.

I disagree... Boston is in a win now mode and if they think the best SP on the market can put them over the top without giving up any major leaguers. They would entertain it at least.

Feel free to name me the last top 5 prospect to be traded period, much less for a #2 starter.

Moncada is an unrealistic pipe dream. I think Benintendi could be had.

Agreed, particularly with Benintendi scuffling a little bit at AA. I'd be ecstatic to get something like Benintendi and one of Kopech/Chavis for Julio. Some people have ridiculous expectations for a Julio trade, and are going to be sorely disappointed if we do trade him.

Folk were saying the same thing before Shelby was traded smh!

I'd be psyched for Benintendi and Chavis. Adding in Cervenka and another BP piece might get us a decent third piece too, someone in there 15-20 prospect range.

Too bad most franchises aren't run by complete idiots like the D-backs are. The Red Sox most certainly aren't. Given that we aren't going to be trading Julio to the D-backs, if your standard is the Miller trade you are going to be disappointed.

My point is you have no clue who's going to ne traded or not! If I'm Coppy he wouldn't go anywhere unless I get exactly what I want and I bet that's his stance.

Boston essentially paid $64 million signing bonus for Moncada. I can't see them trading him at all.

However, we should shoot for the moon with Julio. He's the #1 target SP available which is followed by one of the weakest SP free agent classes in recent memory. You should get two impact players, or 1 impact player and 2-3 other role players if you trade him.

As a Braes fan, I'm rooting for the Sox to lose so they get desperate for pitching and that the Yankees win so Vizcaino's value increases as the only closer on the market. Throw in some Rangers bullpen meltdowns and we should be able to maximize out two best trade chips.

Samardzidja-Russell

He wasn't a top 5 prospect when traded though, he was just a top 15ish that year. Striker's Montero example is probably the best I can think of, but Montero was always a player without a position, and had sat at AAA for multiple years, which lowered his value. He and Andy Marte as Cajun brought up are decent examples (though Marte was never higher than a 9th ranked prospect, and had dropped to about 15ish when traded after struggling in his first MLB action). But in both cases they are players that hung around the minors for a long time due to being extremely overrated. In the case of Montero the Yanks were trying to move him constantly.

I can't think of a single top 10 prospect that was moved at peak value/hype like Moncada is at right now outside of Hanley and Maybin. Maybin of course went for Miggy, and Hanley for a package of an Ace in Beckett and an all-star type 3B in Lowell. So basically it took massive talent to get them, not a #2 starter type. And prospects are far more highly valued now than they were then.
