Take it with a grain of salt... but Morosi asked someone in the Astros front office if there was a chance Bregman could be dealt for a starter now... the answer "was a flat no"
Be nice if Texas loses and Astros tighten it up before deadline. Maybe that encourages the Astros to go for in with bregman for Teheran or the Rangers pony up for Teheran

Them saying no is like Coppy saying Teheran isn't available. That's GM talk for it's gonna cost you.

I find that hard to believe with this signing, even before hand there seemed signs that Houston was willing to use Bregman as the trade chip to put them over the top in the division and now that seems even more likely. Maybe they're saying that because they will only trade him if they get exactly who they want back and are not sure how likely that is (and it might be they'll only do so for a package including Teheran and that Atlanta is asking for a lot more). Whatever the case, both Atlanta and Houston match up well and both say no on trading their main trade chips. I can believe that more with Atlanta than I can Houston, esp. with Texas struggling opening the door for them.
I don't know... they probably need to see how Gurriel does. Its not like these high profile Cubans are always stars... tons of them bust in which having traded Bregman would be a disaster for them. There's no guarantee with Gurriel at all.
The Astros need a really good starter and bullpen piece and the Braves can provide both.
The Braves need a young controllable power bat and the Astros can provide that.
So the only thing that would hold up a deal between the 2 teams would be greed.

Given his track record they and scouts seem to think he should do well enough. But I am not saying I agree, of course they could be wrong. I haven't seen him enough to say much to be honest but they're paying him quite a bit and certainly not expecting a bust. Further, Houston could still keep Bregman either way if they cannot get the starter and bullpen help in a deal for him. While I think Bregman can be had I think the price will be high. But I also think they'll consider moving others too, including Moran and various players on their roster. So depending on how trade talks go they could end up trading Bregman or others and keeping him.
That said, I really like what Houston is doing and won't be surprised if they end up catching Texas like Texas caught them last year. The trades they make before the deadline may be key in how that works out.
Teheran and Ruiz gives them a fall back option. Not a Bregman but at least an option.
Most scouts said Olivera would be a really good hitter also. Power was his question mark... turns out he's not good at either.
They already traded Ruiz away... doubt they want him back.

Yeah, but Gurriel has been called the best player in Cuba for about the past decade now, his performances are more in line with Cespedes than Olivera. Not that there aren't questions about any Cuban player coming to the majors, and there is the fact that he's 32 as well, but he's much more well thought of than Olivera was at the time he was signed.
But even if so it could be a wise move for Houston if he helps them win later this year and next.
