Voter Purge

Trump won Wisconsin by nearly 23,000 votes, yet as many as 45,000 Wisconsinites were deterred by a voter ID law

Dude, I already told you how to defeat both the voter ID problem and the "getting them out to vote" problem. If you want to win an election again you'd best tell your friends at the DNC to listen up.

I take some issues with your second two paragraphs—for instance, a lot of folks who should be able to vote aren't going to have a cable bill, and depending on household situation some might not have any bills in their name—but altogether I find your first paragraph a sensible representation of the sort of compromise to which I'm very amenable (and—despite those protestations of the recent, sturgbot-9000 version of sturg—I am pretty willfully amenable to compromise).

However, I would add one very important caveat to your proposals: the first policies ("free government ID, year round registration, longer times before people fall off the voter rolls, extended early voting, and more polling locations") must be implemented before the second set ("ending third party registration and requiring proof of citizenship") or you're simply effectively disenfranchising a statistically-significant number of potential voters in order to deny the franchise to a statistically-insignificant number of individuals who shouldn't be voting. But if you can get that first litany of policies enacted, I'm all about rubber-stamping the second set.

If you guys would overthrow the government and put JP and I in charge, we could fix everything.

84% of voters who can vote until 8p are white, 49% who can only vote until 7p are people of color. Demand Cobb Co #opentil8 #gapol

Yep. It's just silly (at best) to have this disparity. Cobb deserves whatever criticism they get for this one.

One kinda funny and not unrelated personal note.

The estimable Senora Julio, who is quite engaged in civil society, and a member of the bar in good standing, went to vote this morning. We had only one race, a city council seat, on our ballot. She discovered, after waiting through a 20 minute line, that her DL had expired on her birthday last month. Even though she had a valid voter ID card, she wasn't allowed to vote. She went home to dig up her passport to find out that it, too, had expired. So she ended up taking a few hours of PT from work so she could get her DL renewed so she could vote.

Of course, many people don't have the latitude to take personal time on Election Day. Even if they have a valid voter registration, they aren't allowed to vote without a photo ID. So there are all kinds of "shoulds" in play here, but the bottom line is that she was a legally registered voter who's probably cast a ballot in every election since she turned 18, but if she hadn't had the good fortune to be able to take the time to get her documents in order, she wouldn't have been able to vote.

Trump ends bogus "voter fraud" Election Integrity Commission.
This is a big win in the battle for our voting rights.
Thanks to the @ACLU & others who took 'em to court!
Thanks to the states who refused to hand over voter data!
Sadly, #GA SOS Brian Kemp was not one of them.

Mistake - I feel like this is a smack in the face of Bannon more than Trump actually wanting to stop this.

Nah there was nowhere for it to go without a ton of negative press coming at him. At some point you have to be pragmatic about it and realize you're going to stir up more real opposition voters than will be outweighed by fraudulent voters. I do always find it interesting to see what things the big government states decide to scream "State's Rights!" about.

why wasn't this thought out to begin with ?
At it's inception even my cat knew this was untennable.

As far as Bannon --- perhaps he is the new Lyin Ted or Lil Marco

A commission to prove a problem that didn't exist comes up with nothing

it follows that Trump's voter fraud investigators were just as successful as his birth certificate investigators

I think we got another thread that just surpassed 100 pages where we could post this

Makes no sense why we wouldn't require ID. States were doing everything possible not to release their records. There is a reason for that.

I missed the claims by Trump that it was only Latino and African-American voters engaged in voter fraud. Could you provide a link to that for us?

You won't get a direct response. There will be a poem he will post or a redirection.
