WEDNESDAY MINORS REPORT 7/25/18; Toussaint serves notice to MLB

As everyone here has probably surmised from my posts, I'm in the Ernest and Julio Gallo school ("We serve no wine until it's time") when it comes to prospects, Toussaint is making a strong case to join the big league team at some point this year. He has to go on the 40-man over the winter anyway, so there's really no roster issue. He's still a work in progress when it comes to the walks, but his strike-to-ball ratio has really improved this year.

I kinda look at Touki like I do Folty and Newk at this point. As long as the walks aren't turning into big innings (like they always do with Julio) and he's going to consistently give you 6 innings, I have no problem putting him in the rotation now. Same with Fried. As several folks have mentioned before, their stuff tends to let them wriggle off the hook a lot of times as long as they're not walking 2 and 3 guys in a row. Newk and Folty have made that adjustment and at least don't scare you to death and send you looking for a movie on Netflix when they aren't completely "dialed-in" and give up an early run anymore - let Touki prove he's not capable of doing the same before you go outside the organization looking for a mid-rotation guy.

Trade Julio to Milwaukee for an OF - whichever one they'll give up for him. Trade Allard and another piece or two and go get Iglesias and Amir Garrett to give you enough pen depth to handle it if you never get more than 6 innings from your starters.Maybe you'll get the occasional day when one goes deeper if Anibal's on or one of the kids only walks 2 or 3 to give the pen a breather. Keep using the ATL/Gwinnett shuttle for everybody else to keep a long man available to go at least 2-3 innings and see how far it gets you. Biddle's shown he can give you 2, so has Carle, you've got Wisler and Sims you can get multiple innings from, and even Jackson on occasion.

Wonder how many scouts were at Touki's game today. And will there be more at Wright's start tonight?

Which was a legit shrewd move by Coppy, regardless of Toussaint’s rawness at the time. I’d do that 10/10 times for someone with Touki’s upside.

Absolutely. That was arguably a worse deal for the D-Backs than the Miller deal simply because they didn't get anything. They saved some money...for what? Awful trade for them and an easy take for the Braves.

All I can say is that Touki has been exactly what development is about. I can't wait for the "bullpen" future to stop being talked about. I get he may get to the majors this year as a bullpen member, but he is a starter until he shows otherwise. His stuff is absolutely filthy and watching him has been a pleasure. Highest upside arm besides Wright as far as stuff. Love Gohara, but the lower minors issues are there. The Braves don't have to rush a deal, just be smart with what they sell.

As some others have said, I would prefer to leave Touki in the minors the rest of the year. Let him dominate AAA the rest of the year and once the minor league season is over add him to the MLB roster. I dont want him pitching, just a chance to get acclimated to MLB life. Then let him compete for a rotation spot next year.
