The 4 year thing was a cursory misstep on my part... its not really that big of a difference and does nothing to change my argument. You aren't going to get a MLB pitcher with huge upside PLUS that team's top prospect for a one year rental of Heyward. And from everything I read, Jenkins could very well be a fantastic get.

Then don't trade Heyward. If you're not seriosuly improving your team, why cost your team millions in ticket revenue? And lose your only real shot of keeping him?

If Fried ends up as good as Miller it'll be a major surprise. The potential was definitely there, but the already huge question mark around pitching prospects in general is magnified a hundredfold after Tommy John surgery. He also had forearm issues before his elbow blew, though it could've been a result of a different arm angle due to his elbow hurting.

All fair arguments but if those arm injuries never occurred the Braves wouldn't have gotten him straight up for Upton.

Oh my lord, it is obvious he was not going to be a part of this team, so you get the value for him that you can now! It's quite simple. We had ZERO shot of keeping him. It's pretty clear to anyone that chooses to live outside of the Heyward goggles.

Not just tickets, there's also other ways to make money. Granted it doesn't effect media revenue, but you lose all sales associated with anyone who was primarily interested in the Braves for Heyward.

How much is that exactly? I have no clue. You have no clue. Is it material to the Braves bottom line? I highly doubt it. And if Markakis has a hot April then all of a sudden there are a bunch of new jerseys to buy.

I agree that the return for JUp was questionable especially considering the main piece is currently recovering from TJS, but forearm problems are usually precursors to blowing out the UCL. That is exactly what happened to Huddy...he complained of forearm tightness for a while, then he was out.

Well, he wasn't going to sign with us anyways, so that's a pretty moot point.

How did we have ZERO shot of keeping him? As I see it if we assume Justin isn't part of long term plans, between Jason, Justin and Uggla that gives us about 34M from those 3 players, we can't allocate a healthy chunk of that to Heyward? Braves chose their bed, they're gonna lie in it. THey're gonna blow money on pitching, that's what will happen, will we get another big 3? Or will we be a team with a lot of ****ty and expensive pitchers? Time will Tell.

I actually think the Braves have decided to make pitching prospect a priority. I expect them to spend a bunch on hitting moving forward. They just didn't believe that Heyward would ever be a great hitter.

But when the pipe burst you were out of town on a cruise and by the time you made it home mold was everywhere. And you also lost a bunch of money gambling on the cruise and some bookie from Panama is looking for you and his favorite tactic to intimidate someone is burning down their house with their cat still inside.
