3 BBs over 9 IP is good. 3 BBs over 6 isn't.

He's issued 3 BBs 5 times and in each case it was in 6 IP or less.

I don't think I'm being unfair saying he needs to cut down on the walks. Get his BB/9 down around 3 while keeping his other peripherals the same and he jumps to another level.

I hope his recent trend is a sign of development. I can't say that it isn't.
 
My feeling is that it will take something akin to a miracle for Gohara to ever be an effective pitcher again. To many strikes against him. Hate that, to be sure, but I don't see light at the end of this long, dark road for him.

Victor Vodnik and Justin Dean are fast risers and are on my watch list. Strong finishes combined with possible trades/graduations of other prospects would probably bump them up to top 10 for me.
 
I think guys like Tre Harris, Justin Dean, Demeritte, Riley Delgado, AJ Graffanino, Tristan Beck, Jeffrey Ramos, Alex Jacksons, etc, are the types of guys who should be moved for marginal upgrades or rentals.

That's more in line with the Wisler, Sims, Encarnacions that we traded last season. I can't see trading something more valuable now to get back a similar type of player.

I'm not a revisionist because any trade can go south, but I was wary when we traded Mallex Smith for Gohara. Mallex isn't a world-beater by any means and where the franchise was when the trade was made allowed trading a guy who projected as a decent major league player for a lottery pick made some sense. But Gohara was (and still is) a longshot. I felt the same way about the Shreve for Banuelos deal.

Anyway, here's my Top 10 (and I leave out guys drafted this June).

I will put the June 2019 guys (a couple of whom merit serious consideration for a place in the current Top 10) in my end-of-season rankings.

Gohara was so damn good that first year tho. really got my hopes up.

I don't really sweat Mallex much. Braves had a CF. Mallex was never going to hit enough to fill a corner and he's actually kind of a horrible defender at 26.

I just thought he'd be worth a little more in that we could have acquired a prospect with less risk than Gohara. Smith projects as a pretty good 4th OF. The kind of guy who could sub in CF for a week or so and give Markakis the rest he needs. Good baserunner. I'm not crying that he's gone. I just thought Gohara has more red flags than a Communist Party parade.

I never rode for Gohara but his talent was probably worth a swing. I guess he shouldn’t be totally written off now, though I do.

Mallex wasn’t necessarily coveted. Maybe there was another deal that would have been better?

Pache is pretty clearly the best prospect in the system, and probably the only guy who is "untouchable". He is supposedly an elite defender who needed to add power, and he has done exactly that. It certainly seems like he will be ready to force his way into CF sometime in 2020. Nothing about his BABIP or HR/FB rates seem out of line with a maturing elite athlete, and a .225 ISO in that AA park is nothing to sneeze at.

Everyone below Pache is tradeable in the right deal (Thor for example), but as always, value reigns supreme.

Anderson is a pretty standard "good pitching prospect". The control is a little questionable, and the reports on his stuff vary a bit, so he's just a guy I take a "wait and see" attitude on until I get to see real MLB statcast data on his arsenal. He's 21, and not everyone is Mike Soroka, so some optimism about the control improving is certainly justified.

Waters is BABIPing his way to a line similar to Pache's but it's pretty clear he's a step below in terms of value. Folks already penciling him into the OF with Acuna and Pache are probably rosterbating a little prematurely.

Wright has been disappointing, to say the least. His stuff graded out more good than great in his brief MLB action, and at 23.8 years old he is the oldest prospect in the Braves Top 20. I wouldn't be against using him as the centerpiece of a major acquisition.

Contreras is probably the next guy closest to "untouchable" in the system due to position scarcity. His rough start in AA is mostly fueled by a horrid .207 BABIP.

The rest of the guys are pretty much typical prospect assets that should be valued and used as needed during the Braves current contention window. The bust rate on back end Top 100 guys is so great a team like the Braves is probably best suited using them as currency to bring in cost controlled MLB assets on deals where they gain a value advantage.
