It's an interesting phenomenon. My best student last year was a math major and this year a chemical engineering major. Both women. I wish I had more students like that.
My advanced macro and econometrics classes have a 3 to 1 ratio of men to women. But on average the women are a bit better. There is some sort of selection process that even those of us close to it don't fully understand.
The data is clear. When given the choice women choose fields like teaching, nursing, arts, etc (people subjects)... men choose things like math and science (things subjects)
The market pays substantially more for things over people... but women want to whine about it anyway
