Will this road trip mark the beginning of the end?

I think this road trip is simply exposing all the weaknesses this team has. Since a 17-7 start, over the past 87 games we are 41-46, a .471 winning percentage. This team simply isn't very good. It would not surprise me at all to not make the playoffs.

It was the same last year too. Thanks to multiple 10+ win streaks, they made the playoffs

There's no denying that this is the roughest stretch the Braves have endured in quite a while, probably since September of 2011. Honestly, I'm seeing a lot of that time period in this one, and that both scares and depresses me.

I cannot believe we got swept by the Padres for crying out loud. Embarrassing. They came in to this series hitting a putrid .219 as team for the year, yet they hit .339 as a team against us. What the hell. We scored the whopping total of 6 runs in the 31 innings played, or 1.74 runs per 9 innings. Pitiful.

90 wins should net us a playoff spot. To get there, we have to go 32-21 over these last 53 games. That's a .551 winning percentage. That's definitely doable if we get our act together.

For comparison, to match last season's win total, we would have to go 38-15. That's an ungodly .717 win percentage. Probably not gonna happen.

We can go 38-15, but there have to be some changes in the lineup in doing so.

Road trip performance was coincidental to current record. Still being able to beat the Nats soundly should've been an indication about repeating as division champs. Not being able to take on the Marlins negated the trend.

Things in baseball are never as good or as bad as they seem at the time. This stretch has really sucked but it won't last forever. They'll have another good stretch at some point, probably soon. Key is to have your good stretches be at least slightly better than your bad.

With a great first month and some nice stretches since, the Braves are on pace for 84 wins.

And a good stretch will put us on a better pace.

While certainly true, time is running out. And, on a slightly different note, do you think the team can go on another good run WITHOUT making changes?

What kind of changes? I think the lineup needs to change, and if what I saw already today is true, I like it:

1. Bonafacio 2. Heyward 3. Freeman 4. J. Upton 5. Gattis 6. Johnson 7. LaStella 8. Simmons.

BJ needs to play a lot less. He's too terrible to be put out there constantly.
A hot streak by Upton, Freeman, and/or Heyward (not much faith in him providing a carry-a-team type surge, but you never know) and things change.

Where did you see that?

Batting La Stella and his .363 OBP 7th is almost as stupid as batting BJ leadoff...
