Called Up to the Major Leagues
Rupublicans don't win elections because people like getting free stuff. Plain and simple.
What? You don't like free stuff?

The problem, for Democrats, is that the 'poor' (and by natural extension, those who qualify for government benefits) don't generally vote. This is something they have been working on since 2008 though, and we could see a change in that perception in just a few short months.
Not when it comes off of the backs of the rest of America.
You want to give me a gift out of the kindness of your heart? I'm all game!
You do know what anyone worth a damn intelligently would recognize both. I'm guessing growing up you only read about the redskins, never saw their logo in association with photos, or TV broadcasts. Or did you just think logos were totally unrelated to the team names. And the fact that the Eagles had an Eagle, was just coincidence?
So now we have non Native Americans telling us how Native Americans "really feel" about the subject and how the name Redskins isn't derogatory and hurtful to Native Americans. Wow
We grew up with it so it never occurred to us that it was offensive. I didn't even know it was considered racist until I was like 18 because I never spent a second thinking about it.
My only problem is the uproar from the people who get offended professionally. If Native American's come out and say they'd like the team name changed because they find it offensive, then that's one thing. But it's just a bunch of whiny crybabies who are calling for it. If a Native American says they don't care if someone calls them a Redskin and some whiny ass white person stands there and says it doesn't matter because it offends them personally....well who really gives a ****? It's not directed at them. It has nothing to do with them. So they need to mind their own damn business.
So many damn white knights in this country who spend their time meddling in affairs that don't even concern them.
Well we certainly don't hear many of them saying the name is derogatory.
Carp, if the minority complains and wants the Redskins changed, you'll have to change the Braves, Indians, fighting Irish, etc. changing one teams name opens a can of worms for every other sports team

Then why is there a high school on a Navajo reservation with a 99% NA student body calling itself the Redskins?!?
Well there aren't many of them to begin with (barely 1% of the US population) and more than 1/4 of Native Americans live at or near poverty levels. So getting a good judge on how most Native Americans feelprobably pretty difficult.
Regardless, there is PLENTY of Native American support behind getting the name removed. I think the better question is Why/how does it affect non-Native Americans if the name is changed? Is it really going to affect you that much if the name is changed to the Washington Warriors or the Washington Redtails?
I don't know, but I could see how "owning" a potentially derogatory term might be a point of pride for a 99% NA student body. As with many potentially negative slurs, context is everything.
Show me
I'm constantly hearing how I'm a white guy and I'll "never understand" what it's like to be black, or NA, or a woman, or purple, etc.
Let me just say as a white guy to any group that considers itself discriminated against in any way - if you tell me how terribly offended you are to be referred to as "X," then you turn around and call yourselves "X," your claims lose some of their legitimacy in my eyes. If you think I'm wrong, all I can tell you is I guess you'll just "never understand."
I guess I'll never understand people who don't understand context.
