You've been hired as GM

What I appreciate most about clvclv's proposal is that it illustrates the financial wherewithal to add major pieces, at completely realistic market value, without breaking the bank or ransacking the farm system ... all while moving into contention status in 2016.

My only real quibble would be the Holland trade (believing that one of Folty/Vizcaino slides into that role). Saving that $10MM would still give the Braves ~$30MM additional to play with if you believe the Braves can/will take the payroll to $150MM by 2017.

I'd much prefer to save that cash as well (I've never been a fan of paying big money for Closers), but if the organization insists on continuing to develop Folty as a starter - at least for now - I wonder when you'll ever try to transition him. This season would've been perfect for that with no expectations or pressure and two guys like Grilli and Johnson to learn from. That doesn't mean they won't eventually make the move if necessary, but if there are two things I strongly disagree with that the brass has done it's missing the opportunity to do it now and the lack of commitment to Bethancourt (although that one may still work out).

Yeah, I liked most of it besides the Holland part myself. Though I'd probably just move Maybin to LF rather than sign Upton. He's just way too streaky for my taste. Too much of an all or nothing player month to month. And I doubt he ages well.

This is where I tend to agree with our more numerically-inclined friends - I DO think we need one more power bat (preferably right-handed, of course) to have just a little more quick-strike ability. If Cam can turn into a 20-25 HR threat he could be enough, but I'm just not sure he's going to reach that kind of power ceiling (which he's always had) without straying at least a little from the Seitzer approach that's been so successful for him.

Oh I agree there (I was actually leading the you have to have at least 2 20+ HR hitters to have a shot at a WS train), and it's definitely needed. I just don't trust Justin to be that guy, and I really don't trust him long term. We'd be regretting the hell out of a 7 year deal to Justin about 3 years in, and I don't think we'd get saved by San Diego a second time. We just don't have the payroll to take that kind of risk on Justin I don't think.

Man I love rereading your posts.

Yankee Stadium is a top 3 offensive park? This year maybe. It's multi-year has it at 102. Stadiums near bodies of water have weird wind factors and you have varying humidty factors and temp factors as well. You're making it sound like he's playing at Coors.

Yankee stadium is the easiest for a LH pull hitter to homer by a large margin.

Do you know anything about Yankee Stadium and left handed hitters? Man... I love reading your posts period... you're delusional half the time. Maybe I gave AJ more credit than he deserves, admittedly. But you have blinders on about McCann. There are legit reasons to be seriously concerned about him outside of Yankee Stadium. Have you even looked at the splits, which are a pretty large sample size by now? Yankee stadium is easily the best homerun park in the majors for lefties... its pretty common knowledge.

Same, i dont think he'll age well.

I think we need another power hitter or two, maybe three, but i dont know if i'd bust the truck for Justin.

Great player though.

I do. DO you realize a lot of parks out there favor left handed hitters and have left handed power alleys? Fenway, CBP, Camden Yards, GAB, Minute Maid.

Again, you're making it sound like Coors, it's not Coor.s Would he have drop? Yes. Would it be drastic? Probably not. Again McCann has always played better at home than away, and Atlanta isn't kind to any kind of hitter.

How about this. With the Blue Jays desperate for pitching we trade Miller/Jim Johnson/Luis Avilan for Josh Donaldson. Their GM might be fired if they dont make the playoffs and as I heard one Blue Jays fan say "When I see people say their offense exploded for 5 runs I laugh and when I hear people say their pitching **** the bed by giving up 6 runs I cry". Maybe they can be convinced to trade offense for pitching. Both Miller and Donaldson have the same service time. The Blue Jays window for competing is getting very small with the bargain contracts of Bautista and Encarnation about to end. Then we trade Perza/Uribe/Pierzynski to the Mets for Zack Wheeler and Kevin Plawecki. The Mets are under a lot of pressure to improve the offense to make a run at the playoffs. SS is a particularly sore spot for them both offensively and defensively. Uribe allows them to move Murphy back to 2B improving the overall offense. Pierzynski is an upgrade over Plaweck in the short term which is what they need most right now. AJ also makes for a better platoon partner when the starter D'Arnaud comes off the DL. Wheeler is a great talent but he is injured and the Mets already have surplus of pitching without him. Wheeler has 4 years of team control after this year and replaces Miller in the rotation in 2016. Plawecki needs more development but he is a much better prospect than Bethancourt. Add in 1 of the top free agents on either side of the ball and thats a team thats going to the playoffs.
