2024 Field

Bush lost PA, MI, and Wis and won pretty comfortably.

The key is to not lose GA and AZ, which Trump is the first repub to manage to do that this century

Because Bush had Virginia. Without it he loses. Besides, winning 286 electoral votes isn't comfortable.

You can win both Georgia and Arizona but if you don't win a Rust Belt state you still lose. Btw, I kinda like the old sturg who knew what happened in GA and AZ.

Winning in GA and AZ makes winning the whole thing much more palletable without needing to sweep PA, MI, and WI. You can pick up any one of those, or one of VA or NC, and the math is there

BTW, I'm not commenting on the details of GA or AZ, just that winning them means you don't need to draw the mouch tougher inside straight

I'm also not clear on why the Rust Belt would find Trump acceptable while RDS unacceptable.

They espoused the same policies, and one actually executes. Which is why MAGA loved him before they were commanded to stop

Okay, but let's not talk past the point I was making. Trump can win the Rust Belt states. Could the other '24 Republicans candidates do it? Not a lot of evidence that they can. You gave the Bush example but we had Virginia in our pocket back then. Bush couldn't win it now.

After the 2030 census with the continual population shift to the south it looks like we won't need a Rust Belt state at all if we can get Nevada to stay red.

Why do you think Trump is appealing to the Rust Belt but RDS is not

Trump appeals to the blue collar, unionized workers of the Rust Belt.

DeSantis’ support is highest among Republican voters who are wealthier and better educated.

Trump's abortion stance is also closer to what the Rust Belt wants.

If voters like the policies that Trump babbles about, then they should and will love RDS.

If they care about being entertained, then they will prefer Trump

That's one of RDS issues. He has little charisma and doesn't connect with people. That's why RDS has issues with independents. However, he is way smarter than Trump is.

Lincoln and Washington couldn't get elected today either which is a shame.

Why do Republicans have to put up an entertainer while the dems can put up Joe Biden? Is our electorate the stupid?

I’m by no means suggesting Biden looked anything but horrendous in the debate, and I’m well aware he’s too old for this ****. But this rally speech was about as good for Biden as he was going to get in the debate aftermath. You can see the life in his eyes, which is an understandably bad standard for a presidential candidate.

RDS would get all the votes from the people who liked Trumps policies but don’t like trump. He’d also perform fat better with the independents and undecideds than trump did.

RDS would had won GA last election cycle.

A lot easier when you have a teleprompter and you're daily dose of Adderall kicks in.
