2024 MLB Draft

Pick 129, Herick Hernandez, LHP, Miami. 5'10, 205 lbs

No profile on MLB.com. Quite clearly an underslot guy.

I mean we can't draft slot players with every pick. There are gonna be some low ceiling guys. But I am having a hard time seeing what this dude provides.

I really hate the baseball draft. Not drafting the best player for every pick seems incredibly dumb. I know why they do it, but it's just another reason why baseball plays 3rd fiddle among the big sports.

there is enough value after the 4th round to still select a quality player. now it is basically scraps left over or prep guys you might try to convince to sign for a million. That 5/10 fatass is a waste and complete botch job by the FO... They could have snagged any of the quality players in the 4th round and then punted 5/6/and even 7th.

If college baseball is still working through the extra year bought by COVID, I wonder it that is giving some of the juniors more leverage, because they may still have two years of college eligibility left. I am not sure on that, but it may account for some guys dropping.

I don't imagine we will draft him given he will likely be overslot, but it seems weird that William Schmidt has dropped this far. Dude was a top 20 caliber talent according to multiple outlets.

Schimdt pulled his name out of the draft just a few hours before it started and announced he was going back to LSU

finally found a ranking for the 4th round picks guys..

Baseball America has him at 419th.. He might be slot value with that lofty ranking.
