Trade targets?

I haven't written him off.. but if they are in fact 'working' on stuff', then he won't be much help as that 5th spot keeps coming around. It sounds like they don't like where he is at with his secondary offerings and thus shouldn't be a real consideration this year.

I also absolutely hate the thought process that 'don't look at his stats, he is working on stuff' excuse.. by that logic then anything Nacho or Baldwin or whoever does in AAA can't be looked at either because there is a good chance the opposing pitcher was 'working on some stuff'... either get guys out or show you have the arsenal to do so.

It’s an excuse to avoid admitting guys aren’t very good.

What about a pitcher “working on stuff” facing batters who are “working on stuff”?

We already have a pretty good idea what AJSS can throw, just like we have a pretty idea what Schwelly and Waldrep can throw. It’s not a mystery who has the best tools to work with.

To be fair, the Braves have a history of doing just that. I recall everyone freaking out when Teheran struggled in AAA in 2012 and wanting to trade him, despite reports telling us that he was specifically focusing on his other secondary pitches in order to fine tune them.

AJSS reportedly has increased velocity and movement for what it's worth. He's only been pitching for about 4 years as well.

It's pretty reasonable to expect continued improvement from AJSS.

what a pitcher 'working on stuff' throwing to a hitter 'working on stuff' hitting to a fielder 'working on stuff' don't know who is good now.

I don't disagree with others who say the pitching is fine:
If lopez is healthy
if fried is healthy
if sale stays healthy
if Swelly doesn't fatigue
if the Braves hold on to the wild card spot
if Morton doesn't keep showing signs of being 49
If Anderson or Ynoa can bounce back
If AJSS stops 'working on stuff'

I mean despite all those IFs, the pitching is in great shape for October... But wouldn't it be nicer to maybe have one less IF and just get a reliable starter that could help the team actually make the playoffs?

I haven't been suggesting trading him.. just don't really count on him this year to help. I mean if he does, then fantastic.. but do you want to be sitting here in September watching Holmes and Elder and Dodd get meaningful starts because AA banked on AJSS fine tuning the arsenal? If so, then you are way more confident in 'reports' than I am.

Trades starting to roll in, though still rather minor:

Yanks trade Caleb Ferguson to the Stros

Oakland trades Lucas Erceg to KC

Alot of small fish being traded today. AA will do something. Not sure what it will be but if it were small it would have happened already.

I am beginning the few sellers are trying to hard to maximize the star players that none of them will get traded. The Braves might be done.

Some out-there ideas since we just blew through the 3rd luxury tax.

Ryan McMahon of the Colorado Rockies. Plays 2B and maybe could play OF if/when Ozzie returns.

Tarik Skubal - Detroit SP - would be very very expensive.

Riley Greene - Detroit OF - also would be very expensive.

Soler is a pretty big get. He will create a bit of a logjam next year, but he might very well be the most impactful player traded this deadline.
