GDT 8/8- Uncle Charlie … we gonna need a ten spot

Snitker is a Bobby Cox disciple in name only. He certainly doesn’t manage like him at all (except for maybe leaving his starter in too long).

Just know that if Twit leaves this winter, it will be a Cox disciple. This entire org centers every decision around the cox sun.. it will be Walt or Tui or some other idiot that is a left over from the good ol days of the 90's where Cox was a brilliant manager for taking his team of 5 hall of famers to the playoff every year.

I don't think this is necessarily fair. AA inherited Snitker. I suspect he's as frustrated with some of the decisions Snit makes as we are. But how do you fire a guy who's an organizational lifer with a recent WS title and on a long playoff/division title streak?

My guess and hope is that AA wants to break the cycle of the Cox family tree as much as many of us do. Like Alabama football finally reached its potential once they gave up on the obsession with hiring "Bear's Boys", maybe the Braves can get the most out of their talent with someone who didn't work or play for Bobby.

Bold predictions...
1. Braves go 7-3 on this road trip.
2. Offense catches fire when little Debbie gets back in cf.

That is fair.. I guess being under the Cox umbrella since beginning of 90's has me longing for what you said.. just someone who is more modern.

He is an org guy that preaches at the alter of Cox.. they might not be exactly similar (Cox at least played bench guys more) they are both dino managers that go by gut and old school ways. I am almost ready to go the full kapler experience at this point.

I also pretty much think it has been and still is almost impossible to fire Twit. it will take a full melt down of the team.. I just hope he feels this season and wants to retire.. or AA can convince him to be in a cushy FO position...

I'd have to look back over the Cox era. I don't recall him ever having a super-utility guy, but he did do strict platoons at a couple of positions seemingly each year (both in Toronto and Atlanta). One of the big differences in eras is that with the universal DH and the need for more bullpen arms, it is more difficult to shuffle guys around with a short bench, especially if you have the same DH everyday. I know the 2024 budget constraints played into bench construction and that's something I wish the Braves would give more attention to if budget room becomes available after the big dominos fall during the off-season.

Snitker is more Sparky Anderson than Bobby Cox. His strongest quality on the field is legible handwriting. He runs a good clubhouse, but he can't seem to play bad cop (and when he does, it comes off clumsily). I'm not going to get into the Freeman/Olson debate because the on-field part of the equation has yet to be played out, but I do think Freeman (and maybe Swanson) is missed in the clubhouse because I am of the impression that Freddie could get on guys.

I miss Swanson personally. He was the heart of the team imo. he was fiery and passionate and I think that rubbed off on others. I know his contract is hard to swallow, but he always seemed to be the player you want around for some of the intangibles.

I mean, if we’re attributing the last 35 years to the Cox Gospel, then I’ll happily take more of that. In fact, I’ll help build a brand new church.

Yeah ….. you guys are talking about the Cox years as being a bad thing….. we may have lost a few more WS than I’d like… but we had some damn rotten luck in a bunch of them too…. And what Cox did (with a lotta help from Uncle Ted) was incredible. I’ll take a guy like Cox guy all day, every day. Bobby Cox was the damn MAN.

Not feeling you on that but I can see it that way too I guess. Cub fans have buyers remorse from those I know. This club is missing much more than that. That button down straight lace approach is fine, but you need a few crazies in my opinion

yeah, I am not saying he is talented enough to carry a team.. just someone you fill in to be your "joc" all year. You don't pay that guy what he got paid, but you can still miss him.

It's a little silly to call Cox a dinosaur as an insult when he was managing in the Jurassic period...when everyone was still a dinosaur.

Snit really has no excuse for being this dense in the modern age, and AA has no excuse for allowing him to be so dense. Snit's tactical buffoonery has been blatant for a long time, and should have been addressed in some manner long ago.

Again, AA is not above reproach here. Allowing Snit to guide a 110 win team to 105 wins is one thing, but allowing him to guide a 90 win team to missing the playoffs is inexcusable. This is still a 90 win playoff team even with the injuries, and Snit has somehow allowed them to completely nosedive. If the only thing he brings to the table is the "great leader of men" skill, and he can't lead these men to play like an actual MLB team, what value does he bring?

Man. I was like when did I call cox a Dino manager. Then read where I actually called him a Dino manager. That wasn’t how that was supposed to go. I am tired of the Dino managers that were like Cox — when everyone was a Dino manager. I also probably have an irrational dislike of Cox because of so many playoff chokes with so many hall of famers. He was so bad about letting his starters go too long but that was in an era that everyone let them go too long.

My dislike of twit, however, is very rational.
