Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Agreed, but the Braves won't get him without an overpay. Perhaps Owen Murphy plus Alvarez?

It'll no doubt take more than Nacho. If that was all it would take every other team would have been in on him. I would give up AJSS or Waldrep also to get it done. I'd want a bp piece or even Arraez back. The Pads would probably do it to dump the payroll.

Trading Baldwin for 1 year of Cease would be foolish. They need IF help, so centering the package on Nacho seems like a no-brainer. Then they just decide which arm to include. Walrep or AJSS seems like too much, so that probably means it is fair.

San Diego fans are wanting Baldwin, 1 of Waldrep/AJSS, AND Owen Murphy.

Lol fans are usually morons when it comes to value for their own guys. AA wouldn't trade Baldwin for Crochet with more service time so he won't do it for Cease on 1 year. I think Nacho and one of AJSS or Waldrep would work.

SD fans may not understand Cease now has less than half the trade value he had when they acquired him….because fans are stupid.

why is Suarez in the hypo trade?? Dude has 2 years of player options at 8 million each... I know not much $.. but AA hates player options.

The Friars are going to want more than Nacho.. We are not going to get another Sale deal and I hope AA isn't waiting around for something like that to fall in his lap again.

I am not condoning Nacho and Waldrep for Cease... like I said above, I don't like trading for him if no other holes are filled.

Yeah they'd laugh if it was just Nacho. Cease was top 5 in CY voting and that still holds a lot of value. Honestly it probably takes 3 pieces. Nacho, Waldrep, Guanipa for just Cease. I'd do that bc we need him.

If he wants a Sale-type deal, he'd have to bank on getting creative with a Montgomery trade and hoping for a normal spring training and change of scenery bounceback.

Because we need late inning relievers and Suarez is a very good one whose salary is pretty reasonable.

Agree that Montgomery is likely to move somewhere and the cost would be next to nothing (depending on salary split between the teams). Of course, Montgomery really stunk last season and he's 32 years old. He can eat innings when he's healthy but he may be on the severe downside of this career.

Not a huge fan of Monty at this point. It is a one year deal so not much risk. But I doubt he moves the needle much. It would be a shame to go over tax if that is all the Braves do.

I'm guessing Toronto doesn't want to sell, but what about Chris Bassitt as a bounceback candidate? Looks like $21 million that he's owed and then he's a free agent.

Bassitt doesn't move the needle enough to go over the tax. I'd rather over pay for Cease bc those guys are all 1 year deals to.

If we spend that much money I'd rather it be on a difference maker. I hope they stay away from Montgomery also.

Fair, but if he's not willing to come off one or two of his top prospects for a guy that could help San Diego be a pennant contender again this year (we can't control how stupid San Diego is or isn't), then it's guys like Bassitt I'd trust more at this point than Anderson, Elder, Holmes, etc. You want an on-paper "difference-maker," you've gotta spend the money or the prospect capital.

If he can't get Cease then I'd rather him just sign Flahtery

The only way we're getting Flaherty is if he's forced to take a one-year deal at like $20 million or north of that after spring training starts. Recent history hasn't been kind to guys who got a late start signing late. Anything other than that, and I'd think his agent would press for him to get a 2-year deal with an opt out after year 1 (like Rodon), and I don't see AA agreeing to that.

still think it is better to just punt this off season... there is nothing really exciting that is left and there are no trades that make the team better going past this season when money can be used for good FA.. Just buy a reliever and go see where the team sits come all star break... Right now I don't think anyone is beating the Dodger$.. I know the randomness of the game is the biggest parity factor, but there is only so much randomness that can wash talent disparity and the Dodger$ are way better than every other team.

No need to put a ton of pressure on Acuna and Strider to come back and immediately start providing WS caliber play.
