per capita GDP

where the gap has been widening

just like the gaps in life expectancy and educational attainment

When you think about something like education attainment, do you factor is something like "person understands and accepts covid was created in a lab and it escaped" vs "covid came from a bat in a wet market"?

Or do you only consider a piece of paper attained following the latest death to jews protest?

It seems to me a good idea to have some low cost housing spread out across every municipality rather than warehousing all of it in a ghetto.

Among other things it gives more children from low-income families a chance to attend school in a good school district. Something I favor on a more comprehensive basis by expanding vouchers and other means of increasing choice and competition in education.

NIMBYism is strong in California and has contributed to its shortage of affordable. It is good to see a push back against it. Even if it runs against the "rights" of rich folks to live in insular enclaves.

Liberalism is so great! I spend millions to live in the place I want to live. Their awful policies result in my house being destroyed. And then they say I can no longer rebuild with the same peace I had before

Yeah. I know having some affordable housing and a few kids from lower-income families going to school with their children is going to disturb the peace of the denizens of Pacific Palisades. Life is gonna be rough for them. It would be much better for everyone concerned if those lower-income families moved to Oklahoma.

By the way...

If you want nsacpi to post random crimes stories about Oklahoma, just point out the latest thug knifing a woman to death in NYC

But if you want nsacpi to be silent, just ask him if covid came from a lab

I for one think this represents great progress. Hes using the trash can! They just use the streets in San Francisco.

W for NYC. Oklahoma has much to learn

There does seem to be a correlation.

Speaking of COVID, it taught me what would actually happen the moment “Dubai style” enforcement of public safety standards might go the moment it includes standards that conservatives don’t agree with. People in blue states don’t just love people ****ting in trash cans. But there’s a balance between public safety measures and personal liberty that is often ignored by the right in these discussions.

It is an interesting thang. The left got things wrong by going too far in the permissive direction with regards to behavior in public spaces.

The right, including some our friends here, want to disappear the people who make them uncomfortable.

It is not an easy thang to get right. The pendulum tends to swing back and forth. Often too far.

With regards to public safety during the pandemic the left was "authoritarian." With regards to the homeless and mentally ill, the right insists upon the public interest in terms of what is permitted in public spaces.

The left is authoritarian against law abiding citizens.

The right, or at least sturg33, wants to aggressively punish people who break our laws

depends on who gets to define "law-abiding"

in general it is the purview of the courts

some around here seem to feel it is their purview

some around here for example have asserted that every undocumented migrant has broken the law...actually people who wish to file for asylum and turn themselves in to a border agent are doing precisely what United States law calls for...we may not like it but our law provides for a mechanism to adjudicate their status...moreover while they wait for a resolution of their asylum claim the law also provides a mechanism through which they can work and support themselves...legally

This only works for as long as the laws are just and the enforcement of laws traditionally doesn’t scale down if an oppressive law is passed. Which is why I bring up COVID. What you’re describing as authoritarian is still ultimately the cops enforcing the laws as passed.

it is the easy way out to claim what we don't like to be illegal

there are many thangs that each of us don't like that are perfectly legal...unwise maybe but permitted under the law of the land

What should we do with the guy ****ting in the trash can?
