I'm not freaking out because it really is what it is, but I just think AA has out-smarted himself. He's tried way too hard to find the perfect deal instead of going the route of a good one. He will find someone and there are good options available, but he's done this to himself.

Deals like he made for Sale can spoil you to thinking you can do that all the time and you can't. I've seen that SD kept changing their offers for Cease and ending up wanting Baldwin to. If that's the case I don't blame AA from walking away. The Braves are so good at hitting on prospects lately that Baldwin would be a no go for me.
 
I really don't buy all these twitter "insiders."

Literally no one else is reporting that the Braves and Pads were even remotely close on a deal. And that information wouldn't be especially hard to find for a legitimate sports writer if a deal was indeed relatively close. Certainly Bowman or DOB would have some knowledge of the situation, especially if the trade talks with the Pads had broken down.

He signed Profar a very imperfect deal—just below market-rate, with some upside but a ton of downside risk. So not sure this plaintive theory actually tracks.

I personally prefer a GM that seeks to win every trade, or at least not lose any.

The posters complaining about inactivity this offseason are the same ones constantly lamenting the loss of Contreras every time Murphy steps to the plate.

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, but sometimes the best shot is the one you don’t take.

Contreras to Murphy is maybe a downgrade. I think Murphy comes around big time once he's back to full time.

Fried to Ian/elder is a huge step down. If taking a chance is what's needed to make sure we don't have to count of one of those two, then it needs to happen.
 
I think we may still bring in someone like Quintana forb the rotation but I think people are over reacting. We got a lot of options for the last 2 spots. We might even get another chance to add one at the trade deadline if need be. If the offense doesnt **** the bed we dont need aces going every night.

We aren't replacing Fried with Ian/Elder. We are replacing Fried with Strider. Sure, there is some risk Strider doesn't return to previous form, but you run that same injury/decline risk with every pitcher.

What we mainly need to do is to replace (ideally upgrade) Morton. I would agree that AJSS/Waldrep/Ian/Elder/Holmes isn't a great plan for that. But given that Morton only produced 1.1 WAR last year, that group doesn't exactly have a huge hill to climb in order to match that production.

Strider and sale's health are big concerns. SS#2 is a 2nd year guy that may or may not replicate last season. That's are key cogs. This rotation has complete bust potential. I'd like to see more urgency in insuring it doesn't blow up in our faces.
