5/18 GDT: Schwellenbach, The Drake, and the Rested Bullpen in the Series Finale in Fenway

The 200 innings bit is probably ancient history going forward. The new 200 innings goal for pitchers is gonna be 150 innings.

Braves farm system continues to unearth gems every year despite the poor rankings. Drake and AJSS both top 3 in NL ROY odds.

AA regime has been much better at drafting than the previous one, but some people aren’t ready for that conversation.

Hard to say how much credit goes to drafting, development, or some synergistic combination of the two.

So while "the farm" as it pertains to the population of players may be mediocre/bad, there is no denying that "the farm" as it pertains to the machine that produces MLB players is doing extremely well.

I understand the functional value of both, but I think folks tend to over index on the former.

Is there any team producing big league talent better than us since AA took over? I mean even if you take away guys that were in the system when he took over, we are still producing top end players almost every year.

We have been over this our prospects move fast. Baldwin was only in the minors for 2.5 years. And we tend to trade the bad ones before they hit the majors. I do think we have grade A scouting and developing. Just look at Grant Holmes. Braves fixed him and he went from washing out at AA to a 5th starter for a contender in like 2 years.

I’m still not sure if Holmes is actually good or not.

His time as a starter is hopefully coming to an end soon.

But over the past year or so the Braves have gotten 16 starts out of him with a 4.06 ERA and a 4.77 FIP. Not good but certainly #5 level for a guy off the scrap heap.

I think Holmes is good enough to be the righty Dylan Lee. Lee made his major league debut with us starting in the world series lol.

Lee has settled in to reliable reliever. He isn't gonna be a shutdown lefty. He's gonna be gone when he becomes too expensive. Holmes is going to be the righty version of Lee. Both could probably be an opener or spot starter on emergency. Both guys can give you an extra inning, rubber arms, and mostly reliable.

Well, Dylan Lee was a shut down lefty last year.

Who is going to replace him?

Hopefully Elder. Both are #5 starters imo and there isn't really a difference between them as a starter. As a releiver Holmes has a higher upside and can actually be useful in that role. Elder doesn't have the stuff for that role.

yeah. All-Star Elder is just here to eat innings.

Holmes could be useful in the pen for a cheap cost for years to come.

Braves are going to need to add another starter at the deadline, I believe.

Hard to say. May depend on where the team is in relation to playoff contention. Do we need to make a move for the playoffs (offense, reliever) or a move to actually make the playoffs.
