Sale to 15-Day IL With Fractured Ribcage

Well we do have a sample to look at...

Vs Alonso:
1 - 94.1 fastball (ball)
2- 92.5 fastball (strike)
3- 93.4 fastball (strike)
4 -96.1 fastball (strike)

Vs nimmo:
1 - 95.0 fastball (strike)
2 - 96.4 fastball (strike)
3 - 81.0 slider (ball)
4 - 82.3 slider (single 63.8 EV)

For reference, here's the last 3 fastballs and sliders before injury...

Fastball: 94.1, 94.8, 94.2
Slider: 78.9, 81.3, 81.0

And what were the effectiveness of those pitches? How much did they break? Even regardless of that, we're not talking about a ton of pitches here. And it was immediately after the injury. As someone who has had cracked ribs on multiple occasssions, I can assure you that the pain is significantly worse the days after the accident than in the moment. What happens when his mechanics get out of whack as he is adjusting to the injury?

If you think the injury shouldn't affect his performance then you are a moron.

Struck out Alonso (.941 ops) and jammed nimmo (.783 ops), so I'd say pretty effective

Yeah, AK getting hit in the ribs by nfl defenders an easier. And again, Brees at 39 played several games with broken ribs. He had to use throwing mechanics while actually getting hit
Dude, playing football and pitching effectively are two completely different things.

So then.... you don't know. Gotcha.

I mean shit, Bryce Elder struck out Ohtani one time last month. That must mean Bryce Elder is an effective pitcher.

That's like asking me which is harder - drinking a case of beer and bitching about the braves or drinking wine at a dinner party. Of course, football is easier to Mahomes - he's the best like me at drinking beer and trashing the braves.
Patrick Mahomes was a very good baseball recruit that actually played in college. And his dad PITCHED for 11 years at the MLB level.

I'd say his opinion is pretty relevant.

The point is as far over your head as the Mets and Phillies over the Braves in the standings. Mahomes is like GOAT discussion for football. When someone is that level of good, there's a crap ton of natural ability that makes the spot almost easy to them. I'm sure Jordan thinks baseball is harder too bc he doesn't have the God given ability for baseball like he does basketball.

I think nfl qb is the toughest position in any sport bc it combines having to be physically gifted, but also have a computer for a brain. They have to figure out a defense presnap and then makes sure it wasn't a trick in 2 seconds after the snap.

The hardest thing to do in sports is probably hit a baseball.

Brees isn't trying to hit a 2x2 spot (strike zone) over and over again 100+ times a game while repeating the exact same motion. A QB can change their arm angle on the fly to make a throw or make a short pass or even hand the ball off. Sale can't do any of those things. Sale being out till middle August probably seals the deal for us to get a good draft pick next year.

It's a similar skill set. He has experience doing both. And all of the top dual athletes agree baseball is the harder sport.

Just stop dude. It's embarrassing.

I'm sure someone can pull those pitches on savant to prove me wrong. I don't know how to navigate the site to certain pitches
As usual, you missed the point. SI'm quite certain he manage several good pitches even with a broken rib. The problem becomes repeating the exact same throwing motion with a broken rib for ~100 pitches every 5th day. I don't know how many times it has to be explained to you the intricacies of pitching at the MLB level. If your arm angle is off even 1 degree, it can be the difference in a pitch that is a ball or a strike, a pitch that breaks an additional 2-3 inches for a strike or a pitch the hangs over the plate and is drilled into the left field seats. Not to mention the added injury risk that comes from a pitcher getting his mechanics out of whack.

I really don't care what you think.

We have a small sample - 8 pitches, which's 8% of a normal start. So tell me with all your scientific knowledge of pitching in mlb, at what % does it show? 9, 10, 15, 50?

"...Atlanta’s ace had a similar injury three years ago, suffering a stress fracture in his right ribs while pitching a spring training exhibition game for the Boston Red Sox. He missed the first half of that season as a result...."

...
he done in 2025. What a moronic move to leave him in, and what a moronic move to dive for that ball.

Arguing about Sale's toughness aside, the point is he shouldn't have even been in the damn game at that point.

Snit's stupid decisions usually only cost the team a single win. This boneheaded move probably cost the entire season. The whole goal of this season should now be making sure Acuna and Strider finish at 100% health so they can gear up for 2026.

I agree. Move ozuna so Acuna can DH 2-3 times a week. Get him off those knees when possible

If Sale is done for the year then you have to sell. Ozuna, Iglesias, and Murphy need to be moved at the deadline.

Mid-August when you down like the braves is basically out for the season. Unless sale is back soon and Ozzie and Harris learn to hit in the next week, it's over.

I watched Snit walk down to Sale when the 8th was over and asked how he felt and of course Sale said he was good to go. He was over 100 pitches at that point so the decision should have been easy and we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now. If Snit hadn't of been in the organization for 40+ years he would have been fired by now.

There was no decision to be made. Sale doesn't throw 100 pitches. Ever. Period. It was pure inexcusable stupidity.

AA absolutely must revoke Snit's decision making privileges starting now. Rest schedules prescribed. Pitch counts prescribed. Let him do whatever stupidity he wants with the lineup because it doesn't matter anymore. Just get everyone to the offseason healthy so they can regroup for 2026.
