Yeah- anyone positing that we even could trade Acuna with this contract doesn’t know the first thing about how this works- the package the padres gave up for Soto wouldn’t even get you to the table. It’s almost impossible for a team to put together a package good enough to acquire Acuna on his current contract and still be a contender who would need Acuna.
And a 60 plus a 55 isn’t even in the zip code of being enough.
Prepare to be let down. Harris' swan dive probably has AA hesitant to rely on a young guy now when the combo is go effectiveBarring injury, if Sean Murphy is still on this team on August 1st, I will consider that a colossal failure on AA's part. There are no less than 6 playoff contenders that have a huge need at C and he will be unquestionably the best one available. Not only that, but he might just be the best overall hitter available, depending on which teams actually sell.
Not only can we add a significant piece or 2 by trading him, but we free up much needed payroll/tax space. There is no need whatsoever for Murphy to be on this team on August 1.
Problem is, if we’re trying to contend next year, then trading Murphy has us looking for a DH and back up catcher. That just creates more holes we have to fill in the off-season.
That’s what I’m saying. I’m not sure there is another situation like Devers out there where a trade makes sense. The idea is that Murphy brings back someone to fill a hole for next season. Supposedly he was in the trade that would have brought back Devers which would have solved DH for the forseeable future. Moving him just for prospects makes no sense.

A back-up catcher is pretty low on the list of things to be worried about. Seems like bringing back TDA on the cheap would be a pretty easy move.Problem is, if we’re trying to contend next year, then trading Murphy has us looking for a DH and back up catcher. Several teams have a MLB ready SS that could be available in the right trade. That is our biggest hole heading into 2026. Well, assuming we don't need also need a CFer.That’s what I’m saying. I’m not sure there is another situation like Devers out there where a trade makes sense.
Any limp dick can DH, but trading Murphy still means that you have to replace another bat when you let Ozuna walk. That’s the point.A back-up catcher is pretty low on the list of things to be worried about. Seems like bringing back TDA on the cheap would be a pretty easy move.
And any decent hitter can DH. We also need to be getting Acuna more reps at DH. And certainly Profar is a good candidate to take on more DH reps given his below average defense.
Could involve Cys mom. She’s always down for multiple trade partnersMight need to be a 3 way trade situation
