2025 Trade Deadline Thread

You keep Acuna at least until he has 1.5 years remaining. At that point, depending where our roster is at and what our record is, you might consider trading him.

I think we try to sign Acuna to a new deal. If we cant get a team friendly deal shop him after 26 with 2 years left. That leaves us with plenty of leverage to work with.

It’s almost impossible for a team to put together a package good enough to acquire Acuna on his current contract and still be a contender who would need Acuna.

And a 60 plus a 55 isn’t even in the zip code of being enough.
Yeah- anyone positing that we even could trade Acuna with this contract doesn’t know the first thing about how this works- the package the padres gave up for Soto wouldn’t even get you to the table.
As chef said, it’s an impossible trade. There would be no way to do it and remain in contention, which defeats the purpose of it.

If the Braves were going into a full rebuild a team could maaaaybe put together a massive prospect package to get Acuna. Problem is, the Braves are not rebuilding, and would have to get assets ready to contribute in 2026. No contending team has enough of those assets to trade and still be a contender.

I dont think the team should approach this as traditional sellers. More as getting an early start on next year. Imo the team is not far off, Acuna/Olson/Drake/Riley is a great offensive core. We just need to fill the rest in with roleplayers. I would prioritize OBP/Power/Defense in that order. The ideal player here is one who makes less outs(higher OBP) and is around average in the other two. We also need leverage what we do have to maximize value. We need a closer. I think the pen is fine so long as we have a reliable closer. We need atleast 1 SP if not 2. We are turning into Wile E Coyote with the rotation always praying for health and having it bite us in the ass. We can not go into next year depending on Lopez and Holmes to be the 4th and 5th SP. We also need a SS, 2B, LF, CF, and a DH. We need players who can fit these positions and just not suck. We cant depend on Profar, Harris, Albies, and Allen. We need some hitters who can fill multiples of those positions. Heres is what I would look into.

Sean Murphy for Drew Fairbanks + a prospect. Rays have a big hole at C. Murphy might be a little expensive for TB but its not a bad contract. 3.5 years of Murphy should be more valuable than 1.5 of a closer so I think we could get a prospect or two back. I would suggest 1B/LF prospect Tre Morgan. A low power elite fielding 1B isnt your ideal player but he could get at bats at DH, maybe some in LF, and give us a backup in case Olson ever gets injured. I think I would ask for one of their SS prospects in the low minors. Every team seems to have a few but us. They arent all super high ceiling untouchable prospects..

The White Sox have apparently come to the reality that Luis Robert has little to no positive trade value. Reportedly willing to eat salary to move him. He has sucked ass but if you notice over the last few years everyone who came up with the White Sox got better when they left. I wanna take that bet on Robert and see in the last half if his option is worth it. He has atleast mashed lefties this year. So at worst he gives us a break from MH with lefties. He still plays good defense albeit not elite anymore. I would also try to add Mike Trauchman. Puts up good OBP consistently, low power, not a liability on defense and under team control for 2026. He is a lefty who isnt a platoon hitter but he is minor injury prone and 34 so 300-400 at bats is probably a ceiling for him. I would love to get MINF Chase Meidroth too but probably not feasible. I might even consider taking a big chunk of Benintindi's contract back to get him. Trauchman and Roberts shouldnt take much to get.

If the A's are really looking to dump Severino I might look into that. He apparently hates pitching in a little league park. Much better results pitching on the road. Signed for 20 million next year with a 22 million player option for 27. I dont like player options so if he wants out I would ask for that to be converted to a team option or at worst a mutual option. I cant imagine he will be in high demand but I can see a desperate team like the Mets to take most if not all his contract. Would be nice if we could just swap Severino for Profar. Just going to assume they say no to that.

Ozuna and Iglesias we trade for whatever we can get. Ozuna's hip kills his value and Iggy probably has some as he has rebounded a bit and has a long track record. I would ask for some low minors SS prospects to build some depth if we could. Losing their salaries should offset most of where we have added.

Going into the offseason we would have our closer in Fairbanks. We already got Severino to fill a back of the rotation spot, Cease is a pipe dream but we could still add another SP thats just below the top tier SP. Like Bassitt or Suarez. With perfect health that pushes Lopez and Holmes to the pen. That would be a top tier BP. We know it probably wont last by even opening day. Roberts probably doesnt perform well enough to justify his 20 million option but he could still be an option on a 1 year prove it deal. Profar is close to untradeable so we have to hope for the best with him. MH has overcome long slumps before so we can also hope for the best with him. Trauchman should be solid. At SS we are so desperate all my hopes are on Bichette and its still unclear if he will be needing a prove it 1 year deal or a mega long-term deal. There might be steep competition. And he might need to transition to 2B in a couple years. If he could be a plus defender at 2B I wouldnt mind pairing him with Allen's elite defense at SS to help the pitching staff. If we actually got average production from LF/2B/CF we could live with Allens lack of offense. He has a .314 OBP right now. Thats not a gaping black hole like Albies and MH are. For 2B we need a backup plan for Ozzie. More than just Nacho. I still like him but not counting on him. In FA I might look at signing 2B/SS Luis Urias. Shouldnt take much. For DH I think Ozuna might even be an option because if he plans to keep playing through his injury his stats wont be good at the end of the year. Hip surgery seems like it might have a long recovery time. I think not having a set DH can really help the positional versatility. I think we could go after Ryan O'Hearns who can still play some OF but not young enough to get an absurdly long contract.. Our old buddy Laureauno is having a good year. Probably still needs another prove it deal but he would be another short term option.
