Minor League Thread Part Deux

We’re going to see Ritchie soon aren’t we?
I imagine this wave of promotions to AAA is intentional. We likely will see several members of our pen traded in the coming weeks. So we'll have plenty of opportunity to add guys to the 40 man. And I imagine we will cut bait with guys like Suero, Chavez, Wentz, etc.

I think Wentz may get a longer look seeing he has had some--though very isolated--success at the major league level. The fact that Chavez is on the roster is a real indictment on the Braves.

I'm with Hudson on Waldrep, but in what looks like it's shaping up to be a lost season, I don't know why they would bring Ritchie up. Deester may correct me seeing that he has watched Ritchie in person, but I get the impression that at this point Ritchie is a pitchability guy who needs to add a bit of strength and maybe an MPH or two to his fastball.

agreed.. no need to rush JR.. let him cook in AAA next year too.. he can force his way up if he does well.

I also think they keep Wentz and Suero the rest of the year.. Suero has some really good trip A numbers, so maybe they unlocked something with him. He has suddenly increased his Whiff % and decreased his BB%.. am I saying at 33, he finally put it together..not really.. but if they adjusted a pitch, or even removed a pitch from the arsenal, then maybe he is a cheap Bummer replacement for 2 years. I would love to save 9 million next season personally.

I also would get a longer look at Suero… I know he hasn’t had a ton of MLB success but he also hasn’t had a ton of opportunity. He looked great yesterday and has been awesome at Gwinnett. You never know with these pen guys. I really want to see more and more of Dodd in a relief role too

I know Holmes is an exception but sometimes those guys just figure out when they get a chance or change of scenery so maybe Suero is one of those guys also. In a lost season just keep him around. But Chavez should have retired already.

I think one place the Braves have excelled is finding guys that for some reason or another didn't pan out in different organizations and getting quality innings out of them. In the case of Holmes, I think some of it revolved around his recovery from shoulder injuries, but Dylan Lee is another example of a guy that couldn't break through to the big leagues that the Braves have turned into a contributor. de los Santos may be another.
