2025 Trade Deadline Thread

They weren't because the Braves had the best pitching in baseball last year. msstate just has no idea what he's talking about.

The hitting was an issue last year and the pitching barely got the team to the playoffs. Was just unfortunate that Sale got hurt. That said I'm not sure it would have mattered much. Losing Riley at the end of the year along with no Acuna and the offense just likely wasn't going to be good enough to make a run.

And Albies came back to soon from his wrist injury also. He would have been shut down had we not been on a run for the playoffs. It's sports and shit happens. Not always the best team wins (us in 23) and not always the worst team (us in 21) loses. Just have to chalk it up. AA has his faults I'll admit that but he gets shit on wayyyyyyy too much around here.

Yes, there was posters here wanting pitching bc fried was up in the air with the elbow. SS#2 had 44 IP at the deadline last year; he was hardly a stallworth yet

The same guy who you would want as rotational depth right now if your main starters get injured/unavailable. AJSS is the type of depth move a team should have. Again, your aguments make no sense.

AJSS is a good depth piece. Game 1 of a playoff series, maybe not.

What do you think depth pieces are used for when your #1 starter is out for the year with TJ. Your #2 starter gets hurt the last week of the season. And your #4/#5/#6 starters are out because they just pitched to get you into the playoffs to begin with and were unavailabe.

Probably a pen game or added a starter when fried was injured.

It was effectively a pen game anyways and the team didn't need a starter to replace Fried since he actually pitched (and shit the bed as he did a lot). But if you wanted to get a generic #5 starter then so be it. Results wouldn't have changed.

Face it. Your argument just makes no sense. Braves had a ton of pitching depth last year and it ended up being used up at the season. No team is rocking #7 starters worlds better than AJSS.

You would have a point if you were worried about this year. But that's just 1 year and doesn't fit your narrative that AA has been horrible when effectively he has just had 1 bad offseason and a poor trade deadline.

We'll never see eye-to-eye... 2 out of the last 6 playoff games have basically been white flags. Last year at the break, we had a rookie, a pitcher that's always injured, another that's injured a ton (and was injured at the time), and a converted starter than that had already surpassed his IP the previous 4 seasons. I don't think a magic 8 ball was required to see that trouble was on the horizon
 
Now let's look at qualified positional guys that AA brought in...
AA brought in vertigo (wrc+ rank 121/129), de la Cruz (127/129) and brought back Arcia (128/129). He did bring in insurance for Arcia, Allen, who had a 33 wrc+. And we wonder why the offense is terrible

But you always see trouble on the horizon. When that's your outlook eventually you'll be right.

But hey, if you think the team not having good starters as their 6th and 7th starters is an indictment on AA then so be it. The truth is the team shouldn't have even been in playoff contention last year with all the injuries they had. And in 2023 the players literally shit the bed. The greatest offense of all time couldn't do shit and Strider decided to suck.

I won't argue that AA had a bad offseason. He gambled on not having legit pitching depth this year and it bit him hard. That being said, losing what starters we had plus all the issues on offense I don't see how better pitching depth and a couple of quality bench players making much of a difference.

I think Profar being popped for PEDS after a week and Harris shitting the bed were more detrimental to the offense than our 6th and 7th OFers not being good hitters.

That's where you're wrong - I was a fan boy of AA like you.... well maybe not to your level. I took up for him non-stop until this season when I finally had the glare of 2021 out of my eyes

Fanboy? I can both acknowledge that AA had a bad offseason and a poor trade deadline last year. But what I won't acknowledge so revisionist history about the excellent teams he has built here.

Nobody is on top of their game forever. At some point the Braves will need to move on from AA. It won't be this offseason or anytime soon imo. That being said, he has a real opportunity to reverse the window sliding shut with this trade deadline and this offseason. He really just needs to move Ozuna and the relievers for some lottery tickets that may have an imapct down the line. Only move Murphy if it fills a position of need to improve the 2026 team. Then in the offseason it's sure up the pitching depth, get a new manager, and hopefully get a Tucker type player for the OF so we can rotate Acuna and the others through the DH to hopefully keep people fresh. Getting a non strict DH has to be a priority.

That would be great, but even an elite GM ain't getting anything for Ozuna. I agree on Murphy. No chance in hell Tucker ends up here... cubs, dodgers, Red Sox, someone. I won't fault AA for that either bc we don't win those battles
